I thought the answers to this would be interesting so here's the question. What do you prefer watching? The best of puroresu or the best of North American wresting? Please only answer if you've seen both. Thanks.

Ugh...

It's all pro style wrestling, who cares what country it's in. If were talking about different styles, than you might as well divide the puro category up into..

Strong Style

King's Road

Juniors

Joshi

The Lucha influenced MPro stuff

....etc.

and even than it's pretty unfair to write certain promotions off as just one style since you have guys like Kawada and Lyger who would occassionally break away from the usual formula. You also have the problem of evolving styles. Than you would have to break up North America into multiple styles because it's stupid to put Lucha and McMahon style in the same genre because they happen to occur on the same continent.

With that said, the best wrestling matches I've seen did happen in Japan.

I'm feeling pretty sick right now so I just thought I'd narrow it down. There'd also be way no way I could fit everything from around the world into 10 options. It's an overall question I'm curious about. What do people that have seen both like watching better?

I prefer NA style. I grew up on it and I just never found myself able to get into puroresu. I've seen some of the classics and all but to me none of them had the effect or emotion of my fav NA matches. Just my opinion though(I'll take both over Joshi which I couldn't even get through one match of).

I understand what you're saying but I never had that problem. I think it's just a matter of growing an emotional bond for the wrestlers.

Yah that could be. Some feds which I wasn't used to I was able to get into(I love old Stampede stuff - but i'm a big mark for technical wrestling) but puroresu just never connected with me on any level. To each his own I guess.

I'm a Stampede fan too. Similar to puroresu in some ways.

Puroresu, quite easily. It's treated far more seriously. It's more advanced...more complex. US wrestling is dominated by Vince McMahon, who really doesn't care about wrestling at all. With a guy like that running things, it's nearly impossible to reach the same levels of quality that AJPW reached.

Junior Heavy Lucha Libre please. My favorite match is the cybernetico or trio tag team which has the rudos in control of the match. Shocker will be the next Eddie Guerrero! I cannot say how much I dislike AAA hardcore matches with the use of plywood as weapons and the constant Antonio Pena run-ins. And the cage matches with the rule of last person left in the cage loses usually are not that good.

If Kane is the prototype of what North American style is then I must say that I do not like it. But I must say that HHH vs HBK or Austin vs anybody has been good at times. The worst NA match ever is the Giant vs wrestler under 200 pounds.

I'm more than happy to buy another best of Hayabusa tape than say a best of Strong Style tape. I have not seen enough of Kings Road style so I do not have an opinion on that.

I love Puro, but I also love convention.

If your sick please lay down, take a nap, and cease from starting horrific threads like this.

Once again, if this is a question of style preference it's incredibly ignorant to stuff everything into two vague categories based on what contintent or island they happen to take place on. Once again, you have stuff like M-Pro which has more in common with North American Lucha than All Japan or New Japan.

Now if this is asking people which country do they prefer to be the setting for their rassling, than it's still pretty lame and narrow minded. Why should the country the matches take place in matter?

On the otherhand, if your asking what side of the ocean did the best matches take place on or you know if your into that whole "it's my personal opinion" stuff than what side of the ocean do you think the best matches took place at? Than I would go with Japan.

And surprise, surprise, I also grew up on North American wrestling too. That doesn't mean anything, since just about everybody else here did too. I don't think there's too many people in America or anywhere outside of Asia who was raised on Japanese wrestling.

I still have no problem connecting with wrestling that takes place outside of this country. Because, it's still wrestling afterall. The only people I see being turned off by the language barrier are the casual fans. I don't believe I've ever seen a wrestler as emotional or invovling as Akira Hokuto, I don't give a damn if she has female reproduction organs or speaks another language.

That's where we differ I guess. I hate woman's wrestling, period, so I couldn't even finish one joshi match. And I've seen puro but I just never felt the connection I felt with some NA wrestling(not all of it though). But, like I said, to each his own.

Did you have fun going off to the whining board? Man, I bet you feel so superior right now. Do you like to make enemies? I have no problem and desire no problem with you but yet you want to stir things up. Why?

A harmless question that does nobody any harm. It's a free country buddy. That's why I can start threads like this. Go lift some weights and get some of that hot temper released as it'll do you some good. You get angry at every single thing that somebody says.

I believe the original question was what do you enjoy watching more? The best of puroresu or the best of North American wresting? It's a pretty straightforward question. Take your top 20 or whatever favourite matches from each geographical area and compare. See what you like. See, I'm not that stupid after all.

Yes, tons of fun. I also feel strangely superior to you and I have a uncontrolable urge to make as many enemies as possible. I had no idea this country was free, but I'll take your word for it. I don't have a hot temper, but I do lift weights for vanity purposes.

"A harmless question that does nobody any harm"

Yes, this thread does do harm. For starters, it helps to reinforce the myth that Japanese wrestling is an alien entity that should be seperated from North American wrestling. This is a riff that is not needed when trying to open people's minds.

I also stated that it's not a good idea to try to throw everything together into two genres based on the side of the ocean it came from. For instance, 80s NWA has more in common with pre Choysu All Japan than it does with WCW or WWF. ex: Steamboat/Flair is closer in style to Jumbo/Funk than it is Hart/Austin. You just can't look at things in black and white like that, nothing good will come of it.

And like I said in my original post, who cares what country the matches happened in?

"I hate woman's wrestling, period, so I couldn't even finish one joshi match. "

Aside from the wrestler's sex, what is so vastly different about it?

Nothing. Just female wrestling I cannot take as seriously as male wrestling of any kind(puro,McMaho, whatever). Just a bias I have I guess. I'm not saying Joshi isn't as good as mens wrestling I'm just saying I can't enjoy it as much.

I still see no harm. The thread has already and probably will generate talk about wrestling from all over. You got your point in that puroresu shouldn't be completely seperated from other wrestling across the world so in that respect at least part of the thread has already done the opposite of what you're afraid it'll turn into.

As for the comparisons between different styles from different times -- What I'm trying to do is get people to write/say what they prefer watching -- The best of each and compare them to each other. That's all.

It doesn't really matter what country it is in but things like the respect of a Japanese crowd or the heat intensity of a Rock'n'roll Express match could help change someone's opinion on what they prefer watching.

North American. Puro reminds me alot of Austin/Rock matches, you need hit your finisher 4 times to win. I dont like the HHH way ( hit the finisher and you automatically win) but you need varity.

Plus the first 10 minutes of Puro are always useless.
