I'm sure most of you all have heard about Google offering an email service soon with allegedly 1Gb or storage capacity. Apparently there are issues with Google using the email content (via it's software) to taylor adverts according to our information and possibly the content in our emails. Also there is the possibility that any deleted emails, would be possibly stored on Google's servers even AFTER it's been deleted from the user's account.

Google have denied that any human will actually read or have direct access to their email storage servers and that it is simply an extention of the same processes which MSN/Yahoo/AOL use.

My question is this...for 1 Gb of storage space, does anyone actually mind if there is the possibility that their emails might be used to for tayloring advertising to our interests? Or the possibility that our emails migh still remain on the google servers? To be honest, I'm not bothered at all.

I'm more interested in the potential file sharing capabilities. 1 GB holds many a file.

Who the hell needs 1 GB of space for mail?

Clearly YOU don't...

Why not? If it's free and many times more than the top premium hotmail capcity you can get.

There was no word on the attatchment capacity

You can have attachments up to 15mb. I'm not sure if that's per file, or per e-mail.

As for the security concerns, I'm not all that bothered. For years, hotmail has "monitored" my e-mail in pretty much the same way, only they filter the spam off instead of serving advertising.

They've been beta-ing G-Mail out to people with active blogger accounts since Google owns Blogger, but I haven't heard anything about it yet.

Yahoo was nice a couple weeks ago, as now all the junk mail that goes into your bulk folder doesn't count towards the 6mb of storage. I get about 5 real emails a day vs about 200 spam emails a day (my bulk folder has 2,000 emails in it now since I don't have to worry about cleaning it out due to space limits) so I don't think Im going to bother.

Yeah a couple friends have accounts. Looks like a 10mb limit on attachments.

I actually have a gmail account. Its got a nice easy to use interface, and i like the idea of a search bar that can search through all your emails.

I had someone send me a 5 meg mp3 which came no problem. I dont know what the attachment limit is though.
