What is the evolutionary purpose of

Mine never bothered me, but the dentist told me that they probably would in the future, so I should just have them taken out before there were any problems. They hadn't even come out through the gums yet, so I had the weird experience of having stitches in the back out my mouth where the 4 teeth would have been. I don't know how long I was knocked out for, a couple hours for all I know before I got out of the chair, got a ride home, and passed out for a few more hours. I bled for a while, but I was never really in any pain

You got shafted, man. You should've waited to see if they bothered you. It would've cost you less to wait and just get 'em yanked if they went sour.

Shifty bastards.

Yeah, but I milked it for all it was worth. A couple days off of school and work and being waited on hand and foot sure was nice.

I had braces and my teeth couldn't completely go into place unless my wisdom teeth were removed. The worst part was I woke up right after they pulled the first one and they couldn't knock me out again or numb me enough so I had to sit and suffer through the pain of having 3 others pulled. Other than that it was no big deal as I was back to normal in a few days and had the stitches removed a week later.

Reminds me of what happened when they were pulling one of mine. I had had two of them removed by the same dentist without incident, and was going in for the third, but the anesthetic just wasn't working for some reason.

So there they are digging away in my gums with that screwdriver or whatever it is they use, and I can feel everything. It was pretty bad. I told them to stop, they kept injecting me with more, and different kinds of anesthesia, until finally they said they weren't legally allowed to give me anymore. So I left, with my gums rooted and dug at, and my tooth pulled a little bit out of place, but still firmly implanted. Maybe an hour later, I finally start to react to all those drugs. I was fucked up. Pushed my tooth back into place with my finger and kept it another six months.

It did finally come out, with nary a problem at all, but at the hands of a different dentist this time.

We were discussing my insurance bullshit after he'd finished, and I'm certainly glad I have some now. Would've run me through a wringer otherwise. I told him if I didn't have the insurance I just would've had a go at it with a bottle of rum and a pair of pliers. His reply:

"Well that would be fun to watch."

Smartass. I bet.

In calender year 2001 I was in a dentist chair 18 times. Getting cavities filled (and in most cases refilled due to dumbassery), me trying to destroy my teeth with nighttime grinding...and having to get fitted for a mouthguard 4 different times, tooth extraction. The tooth pulling was great, no freezing shit would work and I can't be knocked out due to other medical things. So with the toothe loosened I just said to the doctor (almost exact quote) " Ok, this freezing ain't happening, so I'm gonna dig my claws into the arms of this chair and you're gonna just yank this fucker out (yes I said fucker, the dentist is mormon...he understood though). He gave a little sigh and started pulling.

the bottom half blew up while still partly in my gum. I sobbed. fun times.

and that whole year was covered by the government. Win.

I had a tooth removed but I don't know if it was a wisdom tooth or not. It was the first time I was at the dentist for about 10 years. They didn't knock me out however. They gave me some kind of thing that froze up my face which I noticed allievated headache pain and that surprised me somewhat because at the time I was suffering extreamly bad from headaches where the medication I was taking wasn't really helping at all. Once I had the tooth removed it eased up the pain from my headaches to what it used to always be at.

When my dad was having his wisdom teeth removed, the dentist cracked one and only pulled half of it out. My dad got up, hit his now former dentist in the face, and walked to the local hospital.
