Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted May 7, 2004 Off-Topic: I hate how people think they need to add "Genius" in a sarcastic manner at the end of their posts to make themselves think they've made the person they're arguing with look stupid. On-Topic: Generally, the non-WM/Rumble/SSlam PPV's don't do great buyrates, and considering Backlash featured several repeat matches from WM, in different ways (Xtian/JEricho is Xtian/Trish vs. Jericho for ex) I don't blame people for passing. Tawren 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 Yeah, Benoit was in the Final Encounter. It was booked around him. He was the Champ and looked strong pretty much the whole month. He takes the blame for the buyrate, Foley/Orton was just the semi-main. Next time bring facts instead of limp-wristed insults, Tawren. Benoit was in the Final Encounter, he wasn't the Final Encounter. Foley/Orton also had a lot more build to it. Would you give Benoit all the credit for the Rumble? WMXX? ALL the credit? He was a major part of the build ups, I agree, but he wasn't the ONLY PART of the build up,.

Tawren 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 He was the Champ, the hype was whether he could win The Final Encounter. The hype was also "Triple H wants his belt back" and "HBK wants what he thinks he deserves". I'm not saying Benoit doesn't deserve some blame. But he doesn't deserve all of it. On a related note, what did Bad Blood, Unforgiven, and Armageddon get?

SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 I'm not surprised the Backlash main event match didn't draw, since it was the exact same match as the main event the month before. Maybe if it had been a LADDER MATCH~!
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 Orton/Foley was the culmination of *months* of build, a hardcore match involving a guy known for taking crazy risks and sacrificing his body, not to mention of the all time beloved WWF/E wrestlers. This got huge build-up, and was one of the company's biggest storylines going into the PPV. To just brush it off as "merely the semi-main" is ridiculous. Benoit/HBK/HHH along with Orton/Foley were *the* selling points of the PPV.
