Threads closed without reason

Recommended Posts

Guest FrigidSoul

Rather than watch the Registrations thread get closed for going off topic I thought I would show some initiative and give a thread to what its going off topic on.

Here ya go

If you have a problem with a closed thread, PM the mod that closed it and give a good reasoning why it should be reopened instead of whining "wah wah, he's got a stick up his ass."

We don't close threads for the hell of it, you know.

Personally, I close threads for my own amusement. I randomly pick a thread, and just close it.

I know that, but I'd rather have someone take an issue with a mod up with the mod himself rather than drag threads off topic with their complaints.

I happen to think Nik is doing a pretty good job with a folder that has as many problems as the WWE one. Gearhead WAS creating thread after thread without seeing if there was already a topic on the subject matter. He even created two threads about video games in the Sports folder.

Mods act on their own discretion, and I just wish people would try to work out problems off the board rather than on.

And for some reason, a random poster is arguing with me over this when I said he started around 4-5 threads last night in the span of about a minute.

I say random poster because I'm not good with remembering names.

I love abusing my *snicker* powers.

I know how you feel, I had a problem with Milky Ways.

Well...it's the only chocolate bar I eat, so thats how it went.

I find it funny in the WWE folder that instead of crappy news threads being closed, it's now crappy discussion threads or somethin that already has a thread or two dedicated to it.

we want crappy news.

So, in fact, you might say "Bring Back Crappy News"?

You could say that but now we are getting off topic.

I don't think any threads are closed without a reason, otherwise another mod with more power (a.k.a Super Mod or Admin) would probably over-turn it because it wasn't off-topic/whatever.

Anyway, are we talking "threads are closed without a reason" or "threads are closed without a reason that I like"? Could we get some examples, to make some proper judgements?

Hmm.....having mod powers would be cool...but I don't think I can be trusted (triggers the ban button like I'm shooting aliens in Space Invaders)

We're right back to where we were in February, when threads were just arbitrarily being closed so the new mods could test out their powers. (Remember when I was "impatient"?)

I count seven closed threads since May 10th in the WWE folder alone. That's a bit overboard.

Threads aren't being arbitrarily closed, AS. Jesus Christ.

And it's only "overboard" if a lot less than 7 threads deserved to be closed.

I remember Loss being a little too picky by pointing out every minor off topic comments in the WWE folder topics, but I don't remember a lot of topics being closed.

So PM one of the WWE mods and ask whats up. Is it really that hard? Have people forgotten we have a private messaging system?

Have people forgotten we have a private messaging system?

You forget its alot more fun to the public (as far as entertainment value goes) to burn somebody at the stake in the town square than to bludgeon them in a dark alley while nobody is looking.

I haven't really looked at any of the threads which were closed so I have no clue what's up and can't give an opinion on it right now. I just noticed a thread about the Registrations being re-opened turning into something which meritted its own thread and thus why I did this. If people give a shit I'll give my opinion later publicly after reading things. I'm not going to crucifix anybody though and I think everybody needs to just remember that the key word with "The New Moderators" are they're new. Just like it took awhile for people to reach their comfort zone in posting they too need to reach their comfort zone in seeing what should and shouldn't be. Plus the new toys are always fun to play with.

That being said I'm going to go make my dinner.

Loss was called out on it before he got much further than two or three bad closings.

Let's be realistic. I'm a stubborn bastard, and the guys on the closing spree are pretty damn stubborn. Rather than get into an argument that will never end and neither side will give in, I'll just phase myself off that specific board.

There's no point in me going to a section of the board that has had all the appeal drained out of it when I can use other parts of the board. I can always talk wrestling elsewhere.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again.

There are a few mods here, the newer mods, who just take their "job" way too seriously.

Most are doing a great job though, only using their "power" when they really need to, for good reasons. Before Dames left, and a new group of guys joined the staff most of us didn't even have a clue we had mods really, except for the times when people really got out of hand, people were just flat out spamming the boards, just flat out flamming other people, and that sort of thing.

And most everyone was happy with that. Now however, we all know who is a mod, as they seem to make it a point to let each and every one of us know that fact.

That's not a good thing.

I've said this before as well. This place, it's just about having fun and just goofing off while also getting into great discussions here and there. If you start trying to come off as Mr. Mod Almighty, people will look at this place as a place with less and less fun and room to just do what we've done for years.

That being just posting, whatever we want as long as it's within the few rules and simple rules that we have here.

This place was perfectly fine for quite some time without the mods ever getting in the way of anyone other than those who were true troublemakers. I see no reason at all why some want to change that. Why fuck around with a system that worked so well for so long?

The best and most succesfull type of message board staff (I can't believe that I'm having to say this) is the sort that the members do not even really notice. Just take care of the shit that obviously needs to be taken care of. When we start seeing "don't do this, do that, you can't do that there, no no no, all of you are stupid" coming from the guys over and over again, when it's over petty bullshit that has never been a problem before...you then have a problem, a real problem.

There, I'm glad I got that off my chest.

Carry on.

You're wrong. Nowhere in this thread is an EXAMPLE of a closed thread that is wrong, unjust or whatever. When we talk specifics, we can determine things. And how do you know that the mods won't "give in"?

I can always talk wrestling elsewhere.

On a personal level, I really wish you would.

See that's what pisses me off. You say that you want nothing to do with that part of the board and its mods, but still you take little potshots like that.

If you don't like the job someone is doing, but don't want to offer any advice or anything constructive, then clam up.

And how do you know that the mods won't "give in"?

Since February, everytime I try to point out when someone fucks up, I get yelled at, mocked, and threatened with being banned. No one wants to hear when they screw up.

Since some mods are reading this, cna I have my post count set back to "0"?

OK, back onto the subject at hand. Anglesault is really getting carried away with this, since it most likely will blow over in a few weeks. If not, there's always Sports to discuss.
