Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted May 22, 2004 What I've gathered to this point is that this is a "favorite movie" tournament not a "greatest ever" tournament. That's correct. From my post at the beginning of this thread: The match-ups were determined by a random drawing. Please vote for your favorite movie. The biggest travesty in this list is putting Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind against Citizen Kane. That's the thing with randomly drawing movies out of a hat. Two of your personal favorites could end up being pitted against each other in some cases, while other match-ups may end up as a mis-match (Fight Club - Tenenbaums). Downhome 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2004 That's not right though. Who here wants a final of say, Citizen Kane and Dogma? The films should have been paired up based on the number of people who nominated them. Not that it matters, heh. I'm sure we all know which films will win this. I can see your point, but look at it the other way. If I had paired up movies based on the number of nominations received, these would have been some of the first round match-ups: Pulp Fiction Goodfellas Shawshank Redemption Terminator 2 Reservoir Dogs Kill Bill Vol. 1 If I had done that, people would be complaining that all the "good movies" were pitted against each other in the first round. Then again, maybe I should have done it by number of nominations. If I did, some of my personal favorites (which are getting killed) may have had a better chance. chaosrage 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2004 I'm surprised you didn't say it had Hogan, since I like Hogan. Well that would have been my next post. But yeah, R3 had Mr T, Hogan, Eye of the tiger, and great lines like "I don't hate the man, I just pity da fool." What does Rocky 2 have? The exact same fight as the first one. Only this time Rocky wins.

Rocky III doesn't seem to memorable at all except for the minor things you said.

godthedog 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2004 these tournaments have proven to be useless time & again, everybody bitches about everything, nobody's ever happy with it, and we end up with people arguing over the greatness of 'south park' v. the greatness of 'predator'. i AM intrigued by 'eternal sunshine' being pitted against 'kane'. i'd never thought about comparing the two before, and was surprised to find that i enjoy 'eternal sunshine' more. time will tell with that one though: 'kane' has held up against a good 20-30 viewings from me, and i've only seen 'eternal sunshine' once. Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted May 24, 2004 I'm going to close voting at 10 p.m. (eastern time), so if there's anybody left who wants to vote, please do so. As of right now, there are three ties and I don't really want to be the one who breaks them.

DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2004 Well, with Ghostbusters and EDII out of the game, may the best film win, as the two I really wanted to make it far lost in the opener. Funny to see what is universally regarded as Smith's worst movie beat out a movie that, until the 2 sequels in 2003 ruined it for everyone, was thought to be a superb sci-fi film. Side note: Perhaps seperate results threads so people can discuss / bitch and complain about the results without bumping an old round up?
