TNA World X-Cup Thread

Recommended Posts

I liked the Ultimate X and the XXX vs. Rude/Divine tag matches, but I hope this is the last X-Cup show for a while because the shows have been done to death.

I agree, and hopefully with more time they could get better teams.

Wouldn't be that hard to work out even a decent UK team if they got a deal with FWA. Jonny Storm and Burchill together in the X Division = awesome.

My god this show sucked. I was hoping since it would be a cruiser based show it would be good. Nope. Best match was Daniels/Skipper vs Devine/Rude. Devine is great in Stampede, I really wish he would get a bigger shot in TNA. I'd call it like **.

Bad show.

I didn't hate it as much as Tawren/tpww, but I didn't think it was great either.

The Rude/Devine tag match and Ultimate X were both good, and the ladder I felt was okay, but spotty. I felt it was worth my ten dollars.

I wish there had been less backstage segments/interviews, but that's my only real complaint.

However, I do agree with Tawren that Devine is great, and deserves a shot to excell in TNA. I've seen him live several times, and he's not only a great performer, but an extremely nice guy. I hope he's impressed some people backstage to warrant a return, as he's one of the few I'm surprised isn't contracted as a regular worker by the big three. (WWE, TNA, ROH)

I've been a Devine fan since I watched Stampede on A-Channel 4 years ago. Back then, he really stood out from the pack, before Teddy, Harry and TJ were really any good. His promos were better than anyone in the promotion, and his work in the ring was about the same...but he was wasted away in the Mid-Card fueding with shitty Greg Pawluk, while lugs like Principal Pound and Tiger Kahn were stinking up the Main Events. I remember going apeshit when he worked a dark match at the SmackDown tapings a year later. I'm surprised it's taken him this long to be discovered. He would have made a great mouthpiece for the Canadian Team.

Devine is definitely a talent I could see searching tapes of. He has a natural presence in the ring, and the spot in (I believe) in the Canada/NWA tag match where Daniels (or Skipper) DDT'd him and he flipped right back up, only to superkick Daniels down and collapse himself...ownage.

Also, excellent finisher. Moonsault Frog Splash.

Petey Williams shined last night as well, as he didn't completely suck. I think this might be attributed to the fact that he was working with Sabin for most of the night, and the two trained together, so they know each other pretty well.

Team Japan sucked the meat whistle, as did Heavy Metal and Abismo Negro. So nothing else is new, haha.

Overall, worth my $10, but not nearly as good as the NWA/Mexico X-Cup (the first one), or Lynn/Juvi, Hart/Juvi, and Sabin/Juvi from the Super X tourney last September.

I hope if they continue to do these X shows, they scrap the national team competition. It's a nice concept, but having to use underwhelming talents to fill a country's quota has hurt them a lot. In this case, they used an entire team of ass to make the event seem more "World"ly, and it just wrecked a few matches.

I really think they have worn out the Internation X-cup stuff as Team Japan was a total abomination and should have never been brought over. Team Mexico was fine with Juvi as it's captain and should have gotten rid of Abismo Negro. Team UK sucked ass and wasn't even brought in for the World X-Cup, and Team Canada would have been great with Devine, Williams, Teddy Hart, and Jack Evans but they changed the team. I did like last night's show for the record as Ultimate X was about ***1/2 IMO, being the match of the night except for maybe the XXX vs. Rude/Devine. But to be honest, I really hated the gauntlet match. It made no sense, was sooooo slow moving, and it worked against the X-division style in every way. I am starting to agree with something that Laz wrote(it's somewhere in the TNA folder....I can't remember) and that's they should really get rid of the X-divison for the name and change it to Cruiserweight or Jr. because they are involving way too many people that don't wrestle "the X-division style".

Ladder match got ****1/2 at 411Mania, which combined with **** at the Torch is a pretty strong endorsement for those who take notice of such things.

That guy on 411 must have been on something because he gave every match over *** stars. Ultimate X and XXX/Rude and Devine were good, the rest sucked.

He does say he's new to recaps, and doesn't watch TNA much. If you haven't watched their better shows, I'm sure you could see last night's as pretty great.

He didn't seem too thrilled about the Mexico vs. Japan tag match, but still gave it ***, so he may be working under the **½-*** = average system, which would make a heck of a lot more sense.

Or if you've never been exposed to workrate like the X-Division usually offers, you'll overrate them. Seriously. I overrated, like, every cruiser match from 2001 to late 2002 because the WWF/WWE was all punch/kick (aside from Benoit, Angle, Jericho, and Guerrero). Nobody really did anything else (except for Mysterio, but he was in second half '02, around when I stopped focusing solely on workrate).

I still stand by my ****1/2 ratings for XXX/Lynn & Red/Cross & Shark/Sabin & Storm and Ultimate X 2, but I've re-rated a lot of other TNA matches I gave over ***1/2.
