NOW Can I call everyone  who said Kenzo Suzuki threatened Mysterio in his latest promo an idiot, considering he can't speak English?

The report never said that Kenzo can't speak Spanish. Shit, Rey can barely speak English either.

...OK, now you are sounding dumber than I usually am. Since when did Mysterio not speak english?

Anyway, I don't know how people heard him say Mysterio. I saw the promo on tape and....well, he just rambled like an idiot. That's japanese for you "arjhgajdgaskjjgsaj yah!". Maybe if he slipped in "lariatooooo" he could be challenging Bradshaw.

if all this is true then Hiroko has a good head on her shoulders and ain't no meek sterotypical Japanese woman.

Say what!?? That is the biggest pile of racist, sexist, insensitive crap I have ever heard.

If this really happened, then that explains a lot about why management is reportedly souring on Kenzo.

No, they soured on him because he sucks ass in the ring. If they soured on him because of his wife, they're completely clueless, as she saved them from pissing off an entire market.

I also heard Mysterio mentioned in Kenzo's rant, and Hiroko isn't a wrestler at all(unless she's just started cause im a few years behind on Joshi).

Hiroko is not a wrestler at all. She could probably fit the role of manager though, since she will be the mouthpiece for Kenzo.

Knowing Vince, he'll probly tell her to fuck off and ignore all her suggestions once he signs the contract and have her cut promos that sound like "Mai husaband wirr be-ah Dabba-yu Dabbah-yu Eee cham-pee-on." every Goddamn night. Then Big Slow can call hthem a "gooks" before he chokeslams one of them off of a parking garage.

God I hate SD.

What did you say, and you shouldn't insult the mods because they usually are right on the subject.

here's what i said, verbatim:

"whoa whoa WHOA...someone stood up to Vince...and HE LISTENED!?!? is this a sign of the Apocalypse?"

i fail to see what was wrong with that. but, whatever...more then likely i'm wrong.

I don't see anything wrong with it...it's not off topic, flaming, or generally talking stupid.

there's no point in getting upset about this, i guess...the mods are gonna do whatever the hell they want regardless. not like we have any choice in the matter.

I may be WAAAAAYYYYY behind the times here, but how exactly was the 'Hirohito' character going to be offensive to the Japanese? I am not Japanese, I know no-one who is Japanese, I know very little about Japanese wrestling and I have never actually heard details on what the gimmick would have entailed - anyone care to help me out?

Are you aware of the historical Hirohito? That is, the Emperor of Japan during WWII?

Or just an accurate insight on traditional Japanese culture. In that entire area of the world, and pretty much every non-Western culture, the focus of society is the man, whereas the woman is supposed to be subserviant and quiet. Only with age do the women gain power (unless I'm confusing this with Chinese culture), as the oldest female in the household is the one that makes the rules.

Hirohito was the Japanese Emperor during World War II, and is the one that ordered the attack on Pearl Harbor and the invasion of China. Him admitting defeat was a huge cultural shock, as I do believe that, until the end of Hirohito's rule as emperor, Japan had a system of belief where the Emperor/Emperess was closer to God than others.* Hirohito admitting defeat, and thus admitting that he was just a normal man, changed the culture of Japan forever.

So yes, naming the character Hirohito would have been a HUUUUUUUGE cultural mistake. Think of it as naming a Italian wrestler Mussolini, a German wrestler Hitler, and a Russian wrestler Stalin.

While I do respect your apparent knowledge of Japanese historical culture, I think it's a huge mistake to believe everything in your history textbooks. Comments like those made about Hiroko Suzuki and the Hirohito gimmick just serve to perpetuate the myth that the Japanese are stuck in time (i.e. living in the 1940s).

It's like accusing the US of not letting go of the Vietnam War, or the Russians of not living down Afghanistan.

You mean they have?

Anyway, with regard to Hirohito - no, I wasn't aware that was the Emperor's name in WWII, and now that's been explained everything FINALLY makes sense. Well, all apart from why the HELL the WWE thought that this could POSSIBLY go down at all well in Japan. Can their xenophobia get any more blatant?

Just think of the backlash if WWE did a tour of Japan with HIROHITO wrestling. WWE does well over-seas on these tours, and don't want to piss off the fans of a culture they probably don't even know about.

Of course, this never stopped the Iraqi-Sympathizer Sgt. Slaughter gimmick, mainly because it wasn't based on an actual ruler.

It's no different from going to France with La Resistance and/or Rene Dupree. You do realise that Hirohito, had the gimmick seen the light of day, would most likely be getting face pops from Japanese crowd...

... at least, until they saw him wrestle.

The problem naming him Hirohito is NOT that Hirohito was this evil dude and its like having a Hitler character. Thats WAY off. The problem was is that Hirohito was emperor of Japan WAY after WWII. The army was generally in charge and made Japan go to war, not him. He is not regarded as warlike, or evil, rather he is an icon there as he was the emperor while Japan made its resurgence. So having EVIL HIROHITO is like having an EVIL QUEEN OF ENGLAND character or something like that.

It is offensive, my wife is Japanese and not easily offended, but she was really really annoyed when the Hirohito commercial aired. She's still annoyed and she knows they are not doing it.

hope that helps....
