He BETTER do it.

I'm sick of the standard horse wins the first two legs and everyone hypes it up...talks lovely about Affirmed and Secacariart(sp?) and shit and the horse blows it.

It doesn't mean anything anymore...I like the fact it makes the triple crown much more elusive but it's a exhusting and annoying story. Last year was the PERFECT timing...with the Seabescuit movie coming out and a charismatic (if thats even possible for a horse) going for it...

I think he will do it. Purge is a good runner but I wouldn't put my money on him winning. I think Rock Hard Ten, depending on position will come out strong and be more of a threat to Smarty than Purge who has the better odds. It's really hard to bet or predict on the Belmont because I dont know the history of all the horses and it will be hard to learn it all. And of course weather has its effects like we saw at the Kentucky Derby.

I think that he will ... he ran away from the field so convincingly at the Preakness it'd be tough to bet against him. Plus, he's shown that he can run in the mud, so bad weather shouldn't effect him too much if it does take a turn for the worse.

I'm doing a tri-box on Smarty, RH10 & Eddington (not a huge Purge fan) and probably just throw a $20 on Royal Assault to show (always have to bet at least one 'dog)

Unless there is some kind of freak occurance (ie, stumbling out of the gate, getting hurt, jockey falling off) I think that Smarty runs away with this one again. It's a combination that he's a great horse, and the competition just isn't there this year. He's about as much of a lock as any horse can be in my book.

I'm going to end up throwing a couple of Superfecta's out there for the hell of it. Then I'll probably do two Exacta's (Smarty and Rock & Smarty & Eddington) as well as taking a dog for show and maybe a sawbuck on Smarty to win. I love the track.

Im going with a couple superfectas also.

Smaty Jones

Hard Rock Ten

Purge

Eddington

Smarty Jones

Eddington

Hard Rock Ten

Master David

I will probably put $50 on my first superfecta and $20 on my second one. I will throw in some other smaller ones out there like single bets on Smarty Jones and Master David also the day of the race.

On the Preakness, I was lucky enough to come out $250 richer so maybe my luck will still shine on me Saturday.

Hoping I'm wrong I think Rock Hard Ten will win. He's got the size, and endurance for the Belmont.Hank Goldberg also said he's run great this entire week. Also at the Preakness, he threw a fit going in to the starting gate, and still finished second.

Or else it's off to the glue factory.

I'm watching ESPN's coverage, and so far today a new track record was set on the dirt and THAT was almost topped a race later. The track seems really fast today, and it looks like the rain will hold off, so if Stewart Elliot can keep him from shooting out of the gate and tiring out on the backstretch (especially since he's on the outside to start), which has felled other horses (Funny Cide last year), I think he'll take it.

quick question...are they keeping it on NBC with the coverage of Reagans death and all...I was wondering if they would ship it to ESPN or will they just go forth and air the race neways.

edit: well looks like they went back to AFL...so i guess it will stay on the race.

I just turned it to espn 10 minutes ago it was sunny as hell...and now it's pouring...

Is this good or bad for Smarty?

I think Smarty is good on a wet track.

The track was sloppy at the Derby, wasn't it? And that was after a big storm passed. This is the first steady rain of the day, so I guess the track won't be that bad (there is one more race to go before the Belmont, though).

I love how they make it out like this is the biggest deal in sports if a Horse can run faster then other horses...

The damn horse doesn't even know it's racing.

I've always wanted to see a horse race without Midgets on thier backs whipping them...

if it is so fucking "natural" take those dwarfs off them.

Yes it was...it was sloppy as hell but isn't the track longer at Belmont? That should factor in...

<Knows very little about the tracks...

I love bob costas pimping of Gambling...

The Belmont is the longer track of the three. It's a mile and a half long, the only major horse race to be run on a dirt track that long.

And the jockeys do have a purpose, you know. They're like NASCAR drivers; they steer the horse and make sure it is on a good pace.

I dont get why people gather to see something that will last 2 minutes at the most and you'll make little money off it either...

I know it's historical and all but still...

Cars don't drive themselfs...Horses do.

And I don't get why people gather to watch a bunch of cars go around the same oval 200 times, but different strokes for different folks and all.

The prospect of a 23 car pile up and not being in the damn thing is appealing and the Beer and the Half Naked Southern Gals in the infield is a damn appealing as well.

Hopes of seeing a Car crash. The only thing I can figure.

You need about 50 minutes to hype something that lasts 2 minutes...

Kinda like Foreplay and Sex.

It's a god damn horse!

Gotta love NBC trying to suck out every inch of sap it can for this.

So are we suppose to watch this in hopes of a 20 Horse pile up?

that certainty would be memorable and maybe Rock Hard 10 and Smarty can channel Richard Petty/David Pearson's 1976 Daytona 500 finish.
