Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted April 24, 2002 <<I hate to break it to you guys, but reports from Smackdown! are coming in that say that Hogan was CHEERED literally out of the building when he came out for the opening promo. Several reports that I've read, including a friend of mine who attended, stated that he literally tried to calm the audience down and shut them up so he could talk, but gave up and absolutley looked astounded. >> Well this shows that Peoria is full of rubes. >>My theory is that he was booed slightly on RAW probably because of it's location. Hogan isn't going to be popular everywhere he goes. Some areas are going to buy into him, and some won't. I think this Hulkamania thing is going to last a little longer than most of the internet guys think.>> Raw was in St.Louis, Smackdown was in Peoria. Would cities that close have that difference of opinion over the Orange Goblin. I do agree that the Orange Goblin's reaction will differ from city to city but I thought it was more regional. The Northeast liking Hogan more, and the South liking Hogan less.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted April 24, 2002 No doubt everyone else also saw the crapload of anti-Hogan signs on Raw. It's a ****ing joke when you got guys like Angle, Rock, and Jericho who are young and healthy and they should be able to kick the old hobbling geezer's ass, hell even Triple H is more believable than Bozo Hogan. Aha, it's Triple H's fault that Hogan now holds the "undisputed" title. Damn his SOUL! At least Vince was smart enough not to let Hogan go over clean. Undertaker helping him win and Hogan/HHH talking about whether Hogan could have done it without at least make it a bit realistic.
Guest Report post Posted April 25, 2002 Hate to break it to you, but it's not the theme music. Like I denoted in my huge-ass post to the Raw thread, there was a mixed reaction all night and, actually, it was tame compared to some of the other reactions to him that night. The issue is that the nostalgia trip is already starting to wear - people are happy to cheer for them, but the ears perk up when they see him with a title, which requires, honestly, a little bit of suspension of disbelief on the viewer's part. I think people like Hogan - just not as an aging champion in a federation full of top tier guys that they'd rather see with the belt. Amen bro. The title on Hogan just doesn't look right in the year 2002 when for the past 9 years we've had more talentedpeople hold the belt like Austin, Hart, Micheals, Rock, Triple H, Kurt Angle (with the following exceptions: Diesel, Big Show, and Vince McMahon.) Maybe in 1991 but back then the WWF had like, what, 3 talented wrestlers like Shawn Micheals, Bret Hart, and Ric Flair (and MAcho Man) and today the WWF has like 40!good wrestlers! I like cheering Hogan (brings out the mark in me with my Hulk Rules shirt, WWF Title belt, Python Power bandana, Hulk Hogan punching bag, Hulk Hogan Rock n' Wrestling Saturday Morning Cartoon video, and little 3 year old me doing the Hulk Hogan pose), but him with the belt is depressing to watch especially since he aged alot. I like cheering Hogan--just can't wait to see Austin take the belt from him.
Guest Report post Posted April 25, 2002 Raw was in St.Louis, Smackdown was in Peoria. Would cities that close have that difference of opinion over the Orange Goblin. I do agree that the Orange Goblin's reaction will differ from city to city but I thought it was more regional. The Northeast liking Hogan more, and the South liking Hogan less. Uh-huh. Remember WCW fans reactions when Hulk signed with WCW in 1994? The WCW had to pay fans to show up at his "homecoming" parade and act like they were happy to see him when in reality they weren't (credit Scott Keith's The Buzz On Pro Wrestling released February 2001, See I told you I am his biggest fan!) The South wouldn't like him because the south has always prided itself with being the center of real pro wrestling as witnessed by the NWA, GCW, MCW, UWF etc., They didn't want Hogan, who represented the circus like atmosphere of the WWF and Vince McMahon who buried traditon in 1983 with the expansion of the WWF, to be in their side of town. Like I said, I like Hogan just don't want him as champion.
Guest Smeghead Report post Posted April 25, 2002 Maybe it's the fact that he doesn't glue his bandana to his head so that it doesn't fall off and remind people just exactly how old he is. Nah, can't be. He's always looked like that. I saw a tape of Wrestlemania I recently, and Hogan still didn't have a full head of hair. And he was only about 30 at the time. Sometimes I think the man was born with a bald spot. Anyway, I don't think Hogan's title reign should last very long. Have him drop it at KOTR at the latest. It'd be nice if they made that a retirement match, but if not, don't let him hang around for more than a couple months. His popularity is slowly fading. If they keep him around for too long, it will only hurt the company. *cough* WCW *cough*
