How do I play a torrent file?

Recommended Posts

I just started using this web site - http://imusingtheinter.net/pwtorrents/news.html. I downloaded a 3PW TV show that's a .torrent file, but when I go to open it, it gives me an Open With option, where I have to click what program to use to open it. What program do I try to play it with? Windows Media Player? Quicktime? Something else? Do I have to DL a program to be able to play it? Thanks in advance.

You have to download a torrent client.

I use the one here:

http://bittornado.com/

edit:

I should also tell you that you haven't downloaded the playable file yet. The torrent file is essentially a "link" to another file which you will have to download. Seeing that it is an entire 3PW show, it could take a VERY LONG TIME depending on how many are sharing it and how much bandwidth they are giving up.

So, like, does it matter which one of these I download. I'm in the U.S., so do I just do any of the U.S. ones, or should I pick only the one that's .zip, or only the one that's .exe, or is there another that'd be better? And from which column do I DL it - Experimental or Stable?

Sorry for asking so many questions. I just got a look at some of the shows that are put up on Torrent web sites, and they got great indy stuff like IWA-MS and 3PW, which I really want to see, so I wanna figure this stuff out. Thanks so much in advance, and also for your prior help in the post above.

Download the stable exe file from any of the US mirrors.

Hey, thanks so much. I'm watching it now. One more quick question, if that's OK - Can I delete the original file, or do I have to keep that for the .wmv file to work (i.e. will it not work if I delete the .torrent file?)?

Thanks again. This is awesome. It took awhile, but it works :)

You can get rid of the torrent file when you are done with it. No problem by the way...anything to help.

Okay, I'll post my torrent question here as well then, hope everyone doesn't mind.

I'm new to BitTorrent, so this may be an easy one to answer...

I'm using http://www.wrestlingtorrents.tk, and each time I attempt to download a file, it opens up the download window, asks me which folder I'd like to save it to, and then gives me the following error,

"Problem connecting to tracker - <urlopen error (10061, 'Connection refused')"

Any idea of what I could do to cure this? ;)

I dont know what that is, but if you click ok the file should automatically try to 'connecting to peers' and begin downloading. Thats what it is doing with my files.

It means the tracker is down / not working.

Is there any way to increase the speed of the downloads? I have a cable modem and the download is STILL going slow.

No, not really. The download is only as fast as both parties involved. In the case of multiple sources for one download it's the same. Sometimes it just doesn't go faster because the file isn't popular enough at that moment.
