Impact! Spoilers?

Recommended Posts

In TNA world, Team AAA quickly became babyfaces due to their popularity (Garza in particular) so they could get some technicos to replace a member if they wanted to.

I read that they wanted to push Garza and I know Tenay spoke highly of him in one of his recent columns. Anyone got any ideas as too how they're going to go about it? He looked like Val Venis coming out on the PPV with the towel wrapped around his waist.

Imagine how much better things would be if they had a deal with CMLL instead of AAA. We'd have Shocker, Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, and maybe Black Warrior instead of Garza, Negro, Metal, and Aguila.

Well, TNA did try CMLL first...they even advertised Shocker vs. Negro Casas but then it fell through for some reason and Tenay even apologized on air that the match wasn't happening.

Benno beat me to it, but I'm going to say it anyways ... how is Raven enough of a 'star' to draw in casual viewers?  If you know who Raven is, you know enough about wrestling to want to watch the show.  Would it be his work as a jobber on Heat that would bring fans in?  Or his occasional appearance as a face in the crowed during backstage vignettes on Raw?

Seeing that Raven is an "established" name, and AJ is only known to ROH and TNA marks, I see Raven having more "Star" power than AJ. Raven has held the ECW Title, the US Title, the Hardcore Title, and so forth. He has an established fanbase that is potentially bigger than AJ Styles. AJ Styles has been wrestling for a few years, and has barely had the exposure that Raven has.

Although I don't think Raven-Sabu will do anything for me now. 7 years ago, that's a different story.

I still think that if someone's enough of a wrestling fan to know what ECW was, let alone know Raven's role was in it, than they're most likely enough of a fan to watch the show regardless of his presence or not. (And wasn't his US title reign like a day long? Overnight reigns aren't really the things that stars are known for.) Yes, he's a bigger 'star' than Styles, but I'd be very hesitant to say that Raven is enough of a start to make or break a barely-fan tune in.

That may be true, but by having that exposure, he's got more star power than just about everybody else on the roster, expect Jarrett (and maybe D'Lo. Maybe) So it doesn't make sense to not use what little star power you have. When Raven was a WCW regular, they were drawing 3.0s and 4.0s, and when he was Heat, it was still close 1.0, so I'm sure they are people out there who at least recognize him. Nobody is comparing him to Hogan, Austin or the Rock, but he does have his marks and their are people who would recognize his face, which in the case of the casual fan is usually half the battle.

CMLL pulled out. They tried some BS excuse about Visa's, but someone shot that one to hell shortly after.
