Eclipse 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2004 I don't know if this has been discussed, but I just saw like a special on Matrix Online on the Matrix Revolutions DVD. -It's a sequel to Matrix Revolutions -The Wachowski Brothers wanted the fans to take control of the ending now. -Game starts with you, a human, realizing that there is a Matrix, and then you take the pill, and end up in the Matrix. -You get to pick your role. The DVD mentioned that you can be a Spy, a Hacker, and a Fighter in the Matrix. After that, you get to fully edit your residual afterimage (Your look for the non Matrix guys). Then, you get put into a HUGE, HUGE city. They mentioned this could be the biggest MMORPG environment in MMORPG history. -During the game, you MAY, emphasing MAY, encounter some of the Matrix cast members in the game. Why emphasize may? Because the city is HUGE, and the characters can be anywhere. One of the developers say that finding one of them is considered " a huge accomplishment." So, they are probably rare. -You may have ppl ask you to help them with missions in the game (NPC's). While that is happening, someone else may ask for help to go against the person who just recruited you. You have to choose sides wisely, since that could affect the ending of the game. -Of course, you get to develop your character in the game. As you fight, you will learn more martial arts skills, and learn even crazier moves. You even have to learn Bullet-Time. It isn't there by default. From the in game footage, it looks like you can carry a gun, and even mix that in with some martial arts. -They said that the servers for this game are gonna be of high quality. The hardware used to power them will be so good, players will probably not have to deal with lag issues. They are also trying to completely minimize loading times. They want everything to be flawless. -Get this, as soon as the game is released, there is a team of developers that will be dedicated to releasing new content for the game. (Imagine, extra missions, new skills, new weapons, etc. etc). Also, little by little, to keep the game going, they will be initiating "major plot events" in the game. Those plots may even force you to change the way you play or the ppl you align yourself with. After seeing that, I was in awe. This game could be damn good if they keep their promises... Guest Hero to all Children Report post Posted June 11, 2004 .. I can already imagine a few script kiddies figuring out Neo's spawn pattern and camping to kill him for HARDCORE EXP using an exploit in the system. And half of those characters will look kind of like Neo with a variation of his name or "the one." It'll be brilliant. I'd be a bit more careful about the promises that companies make when it comes to MMORPGs. Did anyone here ever play Ragnarok Online? Do you remember how we were promised epic quests, an immersing plot and great interactivity? Do you also remember what we got? Spawn camp, slash and heal and slash and heal and slash and heal and slash and OMG NO POTZ!!!! HEAL PLZ!!!1, terrible English (though the Matrix won't be to blame for a bunch of pseudo-hacker kiddies talking in 1337 only), bugs like no tomorrow, one GM for a whole two servers who was online every blue moon, broken promises and finally they also deciced to change the story to "MOBs are attacking the cities, it is your job to kill them! Don't ask me why, I'm just an NPC! LOL! FART-JOKE BAD ENGRISH!" Okay, I may be a bit jaded. I'd like to comment on the following statements: "Virtually no lag" - There will be lag and it'll make me cry. "Sequel to Revolutions" - ouch, Jesus Christ! "Finding original Matrix characters" - it'll be on gamefaqs within a few days of the initial release. "Developers working 24/7" - read: we'll hire a bunch of people to slowly give you what you could have had in the initial release, which will keep you playing even longer and maybe force you to start your character over because the one you were using has just become total SUCK. "And every time one of these geeks with nothing to lose starts a new character for this kind of assignment, they get more and more involved in Project MMORPG Mayhem." But honestly, if my computer didn't suck and I had time I'd totally buy it.
Guest Ahhee Report post Posted June 11, 2004 The only thing this appears to have going good for it, imo, is that Monolith (NOLF) is the development team. After the last two movies and that console game, it's going to take a pretty spectacular effort to get my dollars. I just can't seem to grasp the concept of how they are going to pull off bullet-time (THE Matrix effect) within the context of a multiplayer game. If it can be done properly more power to them. I have serious doubts. If you want to have some MMO fun give City of Heroes a try. It's the same as the rest out there, yet different. Nice to be in a different setting besides scifi/fantasy for once. And half of those characters will look kind of like Neo with a variation of his name or "the one." Heheh in Everquest it's Leggggolllasss/Arrragroon. City of Heroes it's W01verine, the |-|ulk and whatever else you can pass through the name filters. This one'll be no different. You really do have to be a tolerant gamer to play an MMO. Paying a monthly fee for a game that usually isn't even closed to finished (thanks Star Wars Galaxies!!) and watching your character go from hero to zero in the course of one patch because someone found an exploit in an ability, causing the developers to change it so it's completely useless for everyone. Guest Hero to all Children Report post Posted June 11, 2004 Well, they promised some kind of a plot. I'm kind of sold on that already as long as it doesn't play like the PSO "plot." Which was actually just a total of four levels with different quests and ZOMG REVELATION. And I'm not buying into the game until it's mostly completed. It's like RO all over just that this time I'd be paying real money.

Toshiaki Koala 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 If by "looks promising" you mean "looks like a big piece of shit," then yes, it does indeed look promising.
