Feds Putting Weapons in Citizens' Luggage?

American travelers are finding blades planted in their luggage, and it looks as if federal workers - make that employees - are culpable.

"The question I have is, 'What's the point of tossing items into people's suitcases?'" David Grindle of Bloomington, Ind., told the Herald-Times. "Is the TSA doing this on purpose in an attempt to catch someone else? I wish I knew."

After Grindle and his family returned from an airline trip to Florida, they found wire cutters in one of their bags, along with a note that said a screener from the Transportation Security Administration had inspected the suitcase.

The family immediately thought of Dorrine and George Theodore, also residents of Bloomington, who found a knife with a 10-inch blade - and a note from the TSA - in their luggage after they flew home from California last month.

"I've been to Europe, where they search your bags in front of you, and I have no trouble with that," Grindle said. "But it makes me nervous having my bags searched without me being present, especially when inspectors are flipping things in my bags that don't belong to me. What would stop them from putting illegal drugs in my bag?"

TSA mouthpiece Chris Rhatigan said the reports mystified her. "If I could answer that question, I'd be rich. They could have been honest mistakes. Perhaps the bags somehow popped open during their travels, and someone dropped something inside. I honestly don't know."

-------------

Seriously, history records that when people were being paid to find witches, they somehow managed to find witches. As airport security inspects luggage and tends to find nothing, sooner or later their jobs will be seen as unnecessary. So, planting a few weapons here and there contributes to job security in these uncertain economic times.

I smell conspiracy theory bullshit.

We really need a list of not-so-acceptable sources for this folder. The junk that passes as "articles" on "whatreallyhappend.com" should be at the top of that list.

Kindly refrain from reposting that kind of crap in this folder.

But, Marney, it does allow for some serious mockery and the potential for humor based on the bilge is always kinda high.

WRH.com is just a source site, the stories there are linked from news sites.

I am not surprised that this is going on.

Oh, please. The government has about 3 million better things to do than to plant evidence in someone's suitcase. If you really believe that this is true I suggest doing the world a favor and locking yourself in the basement for the rest of your life. This is nothing more than conspiracy theory bullshit and not even a good conspiracy theory to boot.

It isn't going on.

Have you interacted with our TSA people? I'm sorry, they're barely able to do the wand dohicky thing...planting evidence is a course a few above what they've done

Kinda like O.J.'s defense:

One one hand the po-pos were so incompetant that they messed up the crime scene to the point where all evidence should have been trashed. On the other hand, the LAPD had this elaborate scheme of planting evidence/etc.

Of course, they were RACISTS, too...

Time for a news flash: The gov't has better things to do with its time than to attempt to plant "evidence".

Then again, I guess we should be glad that this group managed to unravel this mystery before, you know, smart people did.

I said that I wasn't surprised it was going on. It's not some massive conspiracy theory...it happened. Stuff was planted in luggage, for whatever reason and by whoever.

Fine --- you say it happens.

Why?

There has to be a reason why --- or do you simply assume that the American gov't is evil and will screw over people for no reason?

Like someone else has already suggested - officials plant stuff from time to time to justify their jobs. Or for the hell of it, who knows why.

That is the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Justify their jobs? WHAT ABOUT 9/11 FOR FUCKING JUSTIFICATION!!!! Christ your just as bad as Unger without the charm of the boobs in your avatar.

Ah yes, 9/11...the event used to justify seemingly everything.

I'm not saying that their jobs and the security measures aren't necessary, they are..

So, in your eyes, the US gov't is evil.

Got it.

I guess they are important, when they're not planting evidence, right?

Yeah, I guess the deaths of thousands of people due to lax secruity at airports doesn't justify added secruity.

No, he's saying they ARE necessary --- in those brief interludes when they're not planting evidence on people.

Heck, let's go ahead and say it --- they're probably planting it on innocent women and kids.

And minorities. Yeah, that's it.

Ummmm...INXS isn't saying the government is evil. He's saying that the people doing the luggage inspection feared for their jobs, so they planted some evidence in the case that they were going to be cut.

It's really not hard to think that. I highly doubt, if at all, this goes higher than some workers wanting to keep their jobs because they haven't found anything, if it's even occurring at all.

Corey, it still assumes that the gov't has people who are flat out evil enough to plant evidence on people. An assumption I won't make because I don't think most Americans are inherently evil. Perhaps it's the people INXS lives around that has killed his faith in his fellow man.

I'm not saying they are evil! As I stated above, who knows why they would plant stuff. The items got in to the luggage somehow.

Also, just because someone is employed by the government it doesn't mean they are automatically good people. Government workers aren't all necessarily agreeable with the current government either. Their just regular people for the most part with probably no strong political ideals.

You're suggesting that I am saying that these luggage workers planted items in people's luggage because the government told them to - I homestly don't think that's the case at all.

Assuming that the govt does NOT is a pretty unrealistic way to look at people.

On the whole, are people rotten or virtuous? I don't see why police or security officials are any different.

I'm not commenting on this story in particular because the source is horrible and there haven't been any consequences, but to assume that people are basically good is silly.
