NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2004 So I downloaded some avi stuff, and would like to be able to play it on my dvd player. How do I convert the files so they will play on my dvd player?
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2004 I use NTI cd and dvd maker.. It has an avi > mpeg converter and a free 30 day trial(unless of course you like to move around those type of pesky things). Be aware that to do this conversion it will take several hours (a 700mb movie takes like 12 hours to burn on my computer and you can't use other programs while doing it) and roughly doubles the size of the file. This program will split those files up since a movie or video clip will be split to be too big to fit on a regular cd most times.

So how does it work exactly? You just drag the file into the converter and then click "convert", it converts it, and then you burn it and play it? Or is it more complicated then that? Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2004 You just open the program > tools > avi-mpeg converter > select the file you're converting and where it's meant to save to > click start > let it do it's thing. Then you burn it by going into video > video CD > select the file to burn > drag it into the bottom window > click to orange ball that says Write Disc. Then you select if you want it to test and write or just write and the speed you want it to write at.

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 does anyone know of any free file converters that won't leave a watermark and don't have a mb output limit?
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 The thing I linked you left a watermark? Was it the NTI or the splitter?
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 The thing I linked you left a watermark? Was it the NTI or the splitter? the one you left me, would get an illegal operation everytime I clicked the "convert" button.... My main problem now is that the few apps I got to work are converting my avis into UPSIDE DOWN files. This is no good, as I am not turning my tv upside down to watch them .......HELP HELP
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 On the NTI program I've run into this problem to. It really doesn't like it if you have other apps running actively on your system while it's doing it's thing. I just run it while sleeping. I have another program but I need to dig out the linkage to download it. Maybe in the morning if I remember.

I do have another one, but it just leaves a text watermark on the screen. I might just use that one for now, until I find something better. If you can find me that link, hook me up
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 I was half-expecting the subtitle to be "without an avi burner."
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 This is TMPGEnc I haven't tried it yet, but apparently it works quite well and can trick your dvd player to play videos in MPEG-2 encoding, which is higher quality. I don't know much about the program but I hear it's quite good.
