This will Show 'Em

Heh. I heard last night on everybody's favorite cable news channel that a bunch of animal rights wackos went to some California public officials house, and the neighbors began drenching them with super soakers -- pure gold...

Their first bath in months.

At least they're nice enough to try and train themselves to be civilized in what will end up being lawlessness on both sides of the protest line.

Umm, no, they aren't shooting for following the law. They're teaching them to how to get the most attention --- you know, spit and slap at cops, then scream "peaceful protestor" when they attempt to cuff 'em.

The worst I saw in that article was pie-throwing. Try again.

Kylie, I'll ask you to simply take a look at history to see what they actually intend to do.

One would like to be optimistic enough to think that since they're putting some real effort and training into it, that it won't be too bad outside of the wackos that'll surely find their way into the crowd and try to start something violent.

It's funny, out of all the political posts and threads I've read these last few months, the only thing that I can say that I've truly learned is that there's a Gay World Series.

And you assume that they DON'T want to cause a Chicago 1968 scene outside the RNC. That is a mistake. They are SEEKING a conflict like that and will do all they can to instigate it.

They're seeking to make a large scene and a show for the cameras of course (otherwise there's no real point to it), but the measures described in the article should be more than enough to get attention without violence. Of course, as I said, this is the optimist in me talking. In all likelihood, a few of the more extreme ones will set a fight off, and the protestors and police will both retaliate and we'll have an extremely ugly situation again, just like 1968.

Then again, absolutely nothing could happen, as in no real mass organized protest or anything, and we have a nice, uneventful convention.

They're hoping and praying for a massive 1968-style situation. That is their ultimate goal.

Hopefully, security will be so tight to avoid it that water couldn't leak out of the site.

It's interesting that (unless the guys at the office forgot to tell me) we're not planning any such "demonstrations" at the Democrats' convention. And as far back as I can remember, as a party, we've never really gone in for this sort of thing. I guess that might be because Republicans tend to have, y'know, jobs and things? We don't really have time to inconvenience, frustrate, and trash entire cities just because one particular group of people there might be doing something we disapprove of. You wouldn't catch us wearing adult diapers so we could chain ourselves to lampposts, and we wouldn't force the police to close road after road so we could divert rush-hour traffic to already clogged lanes, while we used the asphalt the way God intended - to have a nice lie down and yell "Kerry lied, kids died" (Winter Soldier, anyone?), or to parade crude giant puppets in front of empty office buildings. We've never really understood how throwing paint at people's property, hurling rocks through windows, fighting with the police, or adding hours to ordinary people's commutes gets anyone on our side.

Like I said, it's interesting. Democrats, despite their increasingly ironic party name, still confuse demagoguery for democracy.

Another American (and Canadian, for that matter) cultural difference to me seems to be the comparative infrequency in how often our citizenry takes to the streets in massive protests with the banners and paper-mache figures and all that jazz. Feels like stuff like that happens every other day everywhere else outside of the United States and Canada.

People in the other indsutrialized countries work far less than we do. They have the free time to waste with such protests.
