WCW Submit or Surrender Series

They were the spotlight of one of the weekend shows. Basically it was a hardcore match and the only way to win was to make your opponent submit. I know they had Sting vs. Cactus Jack as one where Sting won after putting Cactus in a trashcan and locking in the Scorpion Deathlock. PN News was in another one but he got taken out before the match.

Does anyone remember anymore of these or how long they lasted? Were these matches a Bill Watts idea?

well these have just recently aired in the UK on WCW Classics. According to Schiavone who was commentating he said they take place every November or something.

 

These were the matches for 11/91 which were on World Wide (not sure if they were on any other shows)

11/2/91 - Johnny B Badd vs Beautiful Bobby

11/9/91 - Sting vs Cactus Jack (as mentioned, but unfortunately WWE didn't send Sky this episode!)

11/16/91 - PN News vs Mr Hughes

11/23/91 - Firebreaker Chip vs Larry Zbyszko

11/30/91 - Big Josh vs Thomas Rich

 

I would have to check my tapes to see who won and how long each match went but it wasn't really a hardcore match I would say (except maybe the Sting/Cactus one) and I don't think PN News was taken out before his match as I remember how bad the match was to watch

 

Not sure if these only happened in 1991 and that was it as I am not really a big WCW fan

You're right, Mr Hughes potatoed him and his eye got swollen shut so News had to give up. I couldn't remember if that happened before the match or during. Sting vs. Cactus Jack was a pretty good match, especially compared to the rest of the matches. We really need to get an all wrestling channel here in the US soon. I'm missing the good old days lol
