Special K 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2004 Hi, I'm running a computer that's pretty crappy by most people's standards. Celeron 200MHz (I think) 256 Megs of RAM, and I nice, fast, cable modem connection. When I'm online typically things are very fast. Graphics intensive sites, no problem, downloading videos, a cinch, right? However, CERTAIN sites are painfully slow. Any message board. And I know they're not just swamped. eBay. Webmail. Most sites where I am able to enter large amounts of text I suppose. What happens especially is when I'm typing in a field (like this one right heah) the cursor slooowllly blinks forward, blink.. blink.. blink.. for each character, and the characters don't actually show up until the cursor has finally ceased slowly moving forward. i type pretty quickly, and if I happen to type too much, the computer will become so busy it will appear to freeze, but it never actually does if I wait long enough. I ran a few dozen virus and spy/adware scans, so I'm pretty sure my computer's all clean. My friend, who's fairly handy with computers, suggested that my java support in IE might be out of date, so I dl'ed the latest version (will tell you which one when I get hom, I'm on the work computer.) available for win98 2nd ed. It didn't really help. So why does typing on the net, and surfing ebay and message boards completely crap all over my computer? Thanks a lot.
Guest Hero to all Children Report post Posted June 25, 2004 I used to have that problem myself with an older computer while I was playing mp3s and typing on instant messenger services. I think it's basically too much to handle for the machine at once. Your only hope is to upgrade. Which shouldn't be much of a problem if your motherboard can handle it. Ram and anything below 1ghz processors are cheap as dirt these days.
