Megaman collection

Recommended Posts

I've only played X and X2 (not counting emulators, for which I played X3). My brother owns X4, I'm not sure if I ever played it or not. X is better.

Use the time stop weapon to freeze the lasers. The stage is easy then.

There's no need to use it on the first section--I have that area down--basically keep to the right. However, the timer drains sooo fast in the second section I'm unable to get through it in time. I'll just have to wait until I'm through a couple of rooms of the second section to use it.

Here is my X ranking. Best to worst: X4, X, X2, X5, X6, X3, X7

X3 worse than X6? Ouch...that's a bit too harsh.

X4 as your favorite--well, that explains why you defend it so much. :P

Then again, I'm one of the few that likes X5 nearly as much as X. *shrug*

Kinda off topic, kinda not but...

Has anyone played the Battle Network series here? If so, how is it? And what's the ranking for it?

Also, when the hell are they going to release Mega Man Legends 3?

I played the first Battle Network. Really liked it, although I never got around the finishing it. 2nd one I haven't played. Either the 3rd one or a game related to Battle Network has AUTOMATIC battles, so I'd stay clear of it. Despite my dislike of RPGs these days, it's hooked me more than most of the ones I've come across.

The Battle Networks' battles take place in a 6x3 "board" of sorts. You can move around it freely in real time, firing your Mega Buster. When your attack bar is full you can use various "cards" to execute commands, mostly enemy attacks. They have different properties, like range, damage, whether or not they attack in a line, elements, etc.

Robot Masters like Guts Man and Fire Man make appearances; they act as summon spells.

Dunno about Legends, because it never seemed all that popular within the MM community...but both of the Legends games are Greatest Hits so that may not mean a thing.

I'd like to see a new Legends game, although I like Tron Bonne more. Either one would be more welcome than another Mega Man platformer, the way they keep screwing those up (X6, X7).

I think the reason that the Legends games weren't as popular with the Mega Man community is because it had very few connections or allusions to the original or X Mega Man series.

I mean, the only regular character to share a name with one of those two series besides Mega Man is Roll, IIRC.

Battle Network, on the other hand, has shown alternate versions of pretty much EVERYONE from Classic...from what I've read. There's Megaman EXE, Roll EXE, Protoman EXE, Gutsman EXE...hell, one of the games' villains from what I read is a BASS EXE!

That may be part of it, yeah. Where's Wily, Light, Rush, etc.?

Oh, note that I edited the above post with more info on the Battle Networks.

I liked Legends 1, but never got around to the others.

I didn't like EXE at all. Weak story.

I think there was a version of Wily in it...and seeing the cartoon "Megaman NT Warrior" once, Rush is in there too.

No idea about Dr. Light though.

ChrisM linked me with this site--good source for about any Mega Man info.

http://www.mmhp.net.

Oh, I think the numerical ratings for the games are waaay off, but the review for X6 is pretty spot on. It even reminded me of things I hated about the game that I had forgotten about, such as having to kill yourself over-and-over again sometimes if you missed something.

http://www.mmhp.net/GameHints/MMX6.html#Review

I think they were wrong about the graphics and animation--they looked worse here than they did in the past.

"It is also possible to permanently destroy your chances of getting certain items in a split-second's moment.

"However most of the stages in this game are downright ridiculously infuriating. Rather than being difficult, this game is just irritating."

I simply have to play X7, if for no other reason than I don't believe it can be worse than X6.

SIGMA IZ L33+ H@XX0R YO!

Oh, close to beating Wily in 7, just ran out of lives. Thankfully the Ultimate Password will take me to the final leg of Wily's fortress. :) I almost hated this game at one time, but I've softened towards it since the Wily stages have actually been FUN even though they're kind of easy, and flying around in a Super Adapter vs. Super Adapter battle with Bass is just damn cool. I waited to transform after Bass just to kind of get a sentai show effect. :)

Does no one care anymore? :P

Replaying a little of Mega Man X4. This is some very odd difficulty. If you never played it before or haven't played it in a while it's rather difficult...then you get accustomed to the controls and it becomes a breeze.

Learning curve starts up sharply then levels off. However, it is more fun than I remember, even though my opinion on its ranking remains firm.

Am I hearing things or does Dr Light totally mess up a line in Mega Man 8 after the first four robot maesters are defeated? It sounds like he stumbles saying "Mega Man", actually.

I knew it was hilariously awful voice acting / directing from the opening, probably the worst this side of the original Resident Evil, but wow, it just kept getting worse (and funnier).

Which is what I told the wheiners on Gamefaqs, but they keep complaining. :P I like the music in the opening, though...

One thing I'm wondering about this...

WHERE IS MEGA MAN SOCCER!?

Screw that--Battle and Chase would have been interesting.

Supposedly Mega Man Soccer is...not very good. At all. Once you get beyond the novelty of the characters it's just some older soccer game that Capcom put MM sprites into.

Oh, on that site that ChrisM linked me to...

http://www.mmhp.net/GameHints/Review.html

RECOMMENDATIONS

(As of games released before January 2003)

...

Mega Man V and/or Mega Man IV

Two of the best games in the original series, hands down, even despite the fact that they are for Game Boy.

Mega Man 2

If you're going to truly experience Mega Man, you have to try the classic that started it all. Well, technically the first game started it, but the second one is the real classic.

Mega Man X4 and/or Mega Man X5

Either of these let you play as Zero which is the main attraction. If you need to decide between them, I'd take X5, as it has more items, options, and the almighty duck!

MegaMan Legends

Okay, so this isn't even remotely a Mega Man game, but hey, it's still a brilliant game and lots of fun.

Mega Man X

Just a high-quality game all around. Sort of the classic for the X series.

Mega Man 3

Okay, so I have to list this one, as it's my favorite of the NES games. This game hit the peak for play control, Rush Jet was actually useful in it, and it broke away from the trend of "eight stages and a fortress or two."

Battle & Chase

It's a shame someone yanked the release of this in North America because it is a true diamond in the rough. It'll take some getting used to the play control but once you do you'll have lots of fun.

Mega Man Battle Network

Again, not a Mega Man game, but high quality and entertaining. The first game and the second are rather similar, so try either/or.

Mega Man Xtreme 2

The level design isn't the best, but this game has a nice switch ability between X and Zero, as well as plenty of plot scenes.

If you're wondering where to search to find some of these, try the Buyer's Guide.

Hmm...so Mega Man IV and V for Game Boy are really good? Maybe that version of the Anniversary Collection will be worth picking up after all.

Also, X5 > X4 (according to some one else's opinion). Take that, Anyanka! :P

Yeah, they're good. The best part is that the GB mega mans are way harder than the ones on NES. Except for part 2.

Did you get to MM3 yet?

As I mentioned before, I've been hopping around from game to game.

In Mega Man 3 I'm at the Dark Master stages, and I beat one or two of them.

Harder how? More-cheap-traps-harder or more-enemies-harder?

Xtreme 2 is pretty lame.

Both of the Xtremes are basically scaled-down versions of the SNES X games. I think Xtreme 2 is already, but Xtreme isn't very good, IMO.

September 18th, I think, but I'm fairly certain in September.

I recently had an evil thought about the Mega Man X series.

What if, ala the series Newhart, the entire Mega Man X series...

WAS JUST A DREAM OF THE ORIGINAL MEGA MAN!

And don't say it couldn't happen.

interesting post from GameFAQS message board

Since no one answered me the other day I emailed atomic planet myself as to why the ending of MM7 was changed. Here is the message I sent:

"Sorry if you have been asked this thousands of time already, but I am curious as to why the ending to MM7 was cut short. The original SNES version had an animation of Megaman walking away from Wily's castle burning down while it showed the eight bosses from the game. The Anniversary Collection just has a black screen with credits. Anyways, I am just wondering why the change was made. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thank you."

And here was their reply:

"The ending you speak of is the Japanese ending, MM7 in MM:AC is based on the American source code, and has a different ending – one where only a Capcom logo flashes up believe it or not. It was felt that this was not good enough so we started to re-code the Japanese ending into the game. Now I do not know if you are aware of this, but the SNES is really a very lovely piece of hardware, and has a ton of specialist raster based tricks it can perform to obtain graphical effects on screen. Both the PS2, and NGC are not raster based, they are polygon based, because of this, certain of the effects used at the end of the Japanese game just were not possible to copy for what really is only a single instance, at the end of the game, so a compromise between the Japanese ending, and the American one was agreed on, and it is this that is present at the end of the game.

Thank you for your question

Personally I am confused. I beat the old SNES version (American) and I don't remember it being just a screen with capcom. It had MM nearly killing Wily, Bass rescuing him, MM walking away with an angry look, Bass looking off from some cliff, and then MM back at Eddie's shop with his friends. Oh well I don't feel like arguing with this guy. What do you all think?

SNES -- Now you're playing with power. A system off for that quote but oh well.

Does anyone know if it's possable to change the buttons around on the Gamecube controller? Specifically the jump and shoot buttons as they're the opposite of the Nintendo days. I need my jump button on the left and my shooting button on the right. I've died at least 30 or 40 times because of this and on top of that it ruins my ability to play at my upmost potential.

I got the PS2 version a couple of days ago. Is it just me or does Navi mode sound really bad? I've only had it on for a little while, but I heard it butcher up Bubble Man, Dr Wily's stage in MM1, Top Man, Magnet Man, etc.., so I took it off. Half the songs don't even sound remixed.

I finished MM8. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I love the snowboarding stages. Weapons were actually kind of useful for a change. I used the electricity just as much as I used the metal blades in MM2, all the time. The tornado, ice, and blast rockets weren't bad either. Some parts of the game were even kind of hard. I think I must've played the last Dr Wily stage about 20 times. Of course then again I didn't know you could get power ups from Rush until after I beat it, so I thought you had to kill both wily forms with one meter. That might've helped a little bit.

They should've went back and re-did all the Mega Man robots with voices. The voices were my favorite part of 8.

Aqua Man: HEE HEE I'm Aqua MAN! (said in the gayest voice possible) *paints his name in a rainbow*

Me: *falls over laughing*

(Aqua man kicks my ass)

Me: ...oh.. shit.

Still can't beat the goddamn rock monster in MM1.

There's some kind of curse on that name. *I*

Please tell me he beat you because you laughing at him...

Also, sorry WP--no way to reconfigure. There's no way to change the default configuration on either version of the game.

Navi mode isn't a big deal to me since I never played the NES games much, but they shouldn't have changed things like Magnet Man's theme. Either give us the remixed theme or leave the defaults in.

Yeah, that's what I meant. By the time I managed to control myself, I was almost dead. Nice strategy Aqua Man.
