The fact that almost every man on both teams played and that the score see-sawed made this better. But it's July 1st... I'm sorry but the fact that it was YANKEE STADIUM YANKEES-SOX GAME 7 CLEMENS V. PEDRO and that is was so fucking dramatic and IMPORTANT makes it the better game. Are you honestly telling me you had more invested in this game and marked out more than you did in game 7 last year. The Yankees, realistically, had NOTHING on the line tonight, they're just playing for pride. Game 7, Sox win and "the curse" is over, that game was infinitely more important in the big picture of the rivalry, plus it was a HELL of a game to boot. Last year was a pressure cooker and both teams had a lot on the line. What was on the line tonight? The Sox settling for the wild card? Doesn't compare to being 1 game, 1 out, 1 strike away from the world series. The magnitude of last years game sets it apart, I don't care if more players were used tonight and there were a bunch of weird double switches. I am sorry but the RedSox of the past few years are just Yankees-lite. They whine & complain about how much the Yankees spend on their salaries, but lo and behold who is right there behind them......I wish the Media would give more attention to the REAL blue-collar teams, like the A's, Royals, Twins, etc......of course only when they deserve it. I also think people overrate how much folks outside of the New England/NY area give a shit about the Yankees/Redsox rivalry. Especially during the regular season, and ESPECIALLY a rivalry as ONE-FUCKING-SIDED as the Yanks/Red Sox. I just think it is hard to sympathize with the Red Sox when you have REAL STRUGGLES by other teams in the league to try and compete with the big market clubs. Bottomline is that Last year was the Red Sox best chance at winning it all considering a lot of AVERAGE players had CAREER YEARS, and it is painfully obvious that they have mostly decided to go back to just being regular players this year. First off, its sickening to hear both the Yankees and Red Sox bitch when one piece of their team isn't absolutely perfect, and how it absolutely has to be replaced. Most teams don't have this luxury, or expect it. Second, Moneyball was a #1 New York Times best-seller. Much of baseball listened to the book, and the economic principles the book expresses have taken effect. I'm willing to bet that Nationally, the A's are one of the 5 most popular teams in the American League. I don't look at the A's and think, "how cute." The Yankees aren't a team, they are a surgical operation gone wrong. With the amount the Yankees spend on their roster, they should be basically winning the World Series every year, and lose no more then 25 games a year. Oh and calling the Red Sox a real team is even funnier, what a franchise that hasn't won ANYTHING in almost over 50 years. Yeah that sure says, REAL TEAM to me..... Baseball will never see a salary cap, and they don't need one either. The amateur draft is what really keeps the system in check. Teams keep players for their first 6-7 years, when they usually have their best seasons anyway. After that, players start to decline, and teams overpay for them.
