TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 C'mon....saying wait til he's advertised to have a match, or at least APPEAR on the show before you use that show as evidence of his drawing is a reasonable request IMO. So let's say you're a Jeff Hardy fan. You've never seen or heard of TNA 'til you heard that's where he was now wrestling. You look at this preview and you say, oh they haven't signed him yet. Are you more likely to order and read the report and say oh, they did him and then order when he's guaranteed to be there. I'm just saying to be practical. If it was somebody that you didn't hate, I think you'd see the logic in it. And I'm no huge Hardy fan at all. I just think he'll help TNA more than he'll hurt. Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted June 30, 2004 So let's say you're a Jeff Hardy fan. Here's a clue.........I'm not. Ok sorry, just a joke I don't really hate Hardy, I just think you guys VASTLY overrate his drawing power. If he brings in 10 (not being sarcastic) new buys, I'll be surprised. However, bring in a guy like Kanyon, and give him a little time, he could bring in a significant # of buys over time. It's just a stupid hire.

He can't draw a stick figure! When was the last time Kanyon drew anything? Sorry, couldn't resist.
Detective Comics 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Maverick Wild I saw Maverick Wild wrestle once live and he got an erection. AN ERECTION. How is that better than Jeff Hardy? At least he keeps his sexuality in his back pocket. (Hanky signals)

I think the point that people are making is that Hardy will bring instant buys, just like people who said they never considering order a TNA PPV until they signed Raven, and they check it out. Even though I think he'd make a great hire too, a guy like Kanyon doesn't have that built-in fanbase and would thus have to be built up, as you said.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Just hope he doesn't fall apart, cause any buys he does bring in will vanish when he gets fired. Oh and the people who say, "where are these Hardy fans?" Go to one of the boards flying around, these people CRIED..LITERALLY CRIED when he was fired. They are more scary than people who idolize Charles Manson. TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 For some unknown reason I sometimes stop by the AOL wrestling chats, and I swear on thursday all that they talked about was Hardy on TNA. Exactly. Hardy brings them attention in a way that most of their signings don't (other than Raven when they brought him). He gets people who wouldn't ordinarily be discussing TNA talking about it, which will help product awareness

Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Wait... so that means i made a valid point? Wow. Doesn't happen often. And to stay on topic, has anyone paused to think that Hardy may be in better shape and actually be able to deliver in the ring? He didn't look THAT bad last week. In fact all I can think of him blowing was the whisper in the wind...

He didn't look THAT bad last week. In fact all I can think of him blowing was the whisper in the wind... He didn't look bad at all, but they worked a very safe match that was designed for Hardy to look good. Time will tell what he can deliver in the ring. Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted June 30, 2004 OK, OK. I give up. Like I said, sign the guy and push him to the moon. If he's got all these hordes of crazed fans, like you guys say, it'll be the best move TNA ever made. I, however, think it would flop hard and fast. I just don't believe these fans exist. thecitythesky 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 * i'm not sure of the exact number. but if you compare attendance figures from the RoH show w/ Hardy to their next showing in the venue... it was down by nearly 400 people. ... so to a certain extent, he was/is a draw. however, they'll need to produce quality shows as a whole to keep the viewers, as i can't imagine many people sticking around and paying $10 a week just to see a Jeff Hardy match. also note... the match he had was, by my account, absolutely terrible. i downloaded it and couldn't wait for it to be over so i could delete it. and yes, the crowd, by and large, booed(?) him out of the building... i was a little bothered by their desire to shit all over the guy before the match even started. but then Jeff managed to validate it. Guest Coffey Report post Posted June 30, 2004 1.) American Dragon 2.) Kanyon 3.) Spanky 4.) ... I'm out.... And not a single one of them can draw better than Jeff Hardy. TNA doesn't need better workers right now, they need to be noticed. Jeff Hardy can do that for them since he is still very over in the general wrestling audience and is a huge merchandise seller. Jeff Hardy is the type of person TNA needs. He also wouldn't have an obserd price tag with no return like a Lex Luger. Jeff hardy is to wrestling, what the backstreet boys and NSYNC is to music. Minimal talent with lots of drawing power. I agree with you, actually. At least to a certain extent. I believe that Jeff Hardy's name value alone can greatly help TNAW. However, on the other hand, I also thought that TNAW was somewhat of an Internet Promotion. Not the likes of Ring of Honor, but it certainly started out that way. Of course, as the months have passed, TNAW have continually tried to hit different markets. So, in that aspect, I agree with you 100%. Jeff Hardy is better than all of the wrestlers that I mentioned since TNAW seem to be targetting a bigger demographic now. However, I think TNAW needs to worry about alienating those whom helped them catch on. You have to believe that without the IWC, TNAW probably wouldn't be running so sound now. Granted they haven't "made it" just yet, however they're still afloat, and after this amount of length, that has to be considered a success. I'm not saying Jeff Hardy is on par with ass like Lex Luger in the workrate department, but he's certainly not known for putting on wrestling clinics either. So, basically what I'm trying to say is that while more people in general might know/like Jeff Hardy better (due to his WWE exposure), that doesn't necessarily mean more TNAW fans would agree. I can't really pinpoint the target audience anymore, but with the X-Division still alive and kicking, you'd think that TNAW would at least still seem to care about the IWC a little bit. Of course, people on-line have been outcrying about Jarrett for months, and he's constantly at the top of the mountain, so who really knows? Obviously TNAW is out to make money. That should be the ultimate goal of any business. Jeff Hardy, obviously, due to his past, can make more money than Spanky, American Dragon & Kanyon (if we're talking about what they've been as opposed to what they could be). I'm questioning who is the majority of TNAW fans now though. If the majority of fans are still the IWC, then Jeff Hardy over American Dragon isn't a better move, because in general (obviously a stereotype) the IWC prefers workrate. Jeff Hardy might be able to sell a pissload of T-Shirts to fat teenage girls while painting his body up in WWE, but who watches TNAW that is going to buy his shirt? His pressence alone isn't going to bring in all of those new (old?) fans. It couldn't hurt, obviously, but I'm questioning his actual drawing power in TNAW. It's not like they have the best advertising. Afterall, that shit is expensive.
Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Well, He was on last week, promoted like crazy on Impact, so let's see how big of a draw he is. Any bets? I say he adds no noticable difference to the buyrate or attendence. But the thing is....evidently the fans that he will draw in, will be 'Drawn' in. That being in the future tense. If he's the reason that they are going to watch TNA in the first place...then that one 'surprise' appearance and him being promoted on Impact isn't going to help if they dont already watch....or haven't heard from someone else that he was promoted/on. So of course there's probaly not going to be a huge jump right away, but I am sure in time there will be. his fans are so diehard that Jeff is their Jesus and he can do no wrong. Where are these frigging people? Somebody show me ONE, much less "tons of drawing power". Jeff was over 5 years ago as a tag wrestler doing big bumps. When we last saw him, he was getting ZERO reaction in a singles push. The guy had 1 hot minute and that has long passed. And as for this...I'm guessing you dont talk to many girls do you? But seriously, oddly enough, well not really, his biggest fanbase is girls. There are so many Hardy.cjb.net and to the affect fanamade sites around it isn't even funny. There are chicks everywhere that still want to see Jeff. And you said he got Zero reaction...and yet even when he did the same old tired 'Take off his shirt' 90% of the women in the audience went crazy.

But at the same time, a lot of people there like Jarrett, so take that for what it's worth. EDIT: This was my 500th post.
