Guest Ravenbomb Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 I've never understood the hatred of the Kennel in a Cell bashing. If you take out the dogs and change who was in it you've got a pretty good match! I would've ordered the ppv just for that match if it was something like RVD vs. Tajiri or some such thing. Esp. without the dogs. Imagine the spots that would be in that match! No, seriously, imagine them. Stuff like a ***** Frog Splash from the cell into the ring and dropkicks and stuff from one cage to the other... does anyone have a tape of this match?
Guest Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 Well, part of the problem was that they wasted a cool idea like this on Bossman. In essence though, it's a pretty silly idea. The idea of the Cell was to have a cage, but still permit outside-the-ring movement. The cages were a bit too close together, so a dropkick or something would have been almost impossible to pull off. This was also part of a PPV that was during the last days of Russo, and was average at best, with an X-Pac/Jericho match that I thought was pretty good. Even without the dogs, eesh.
Guest muswp1 Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 Kennel in a Cell had two real problems: Al Snow and Bossman. They both suck in cages and there was no point to having both cages because you really couln't manuever in between the cages anyway.
Guest razazteca Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 Even without the dogs, Al Snow, or Davey Smith running in circles with his pets, the match would still be bad. If you take out all of the variables of lameness then you will get the classic Undertaker vs Bossman. Even the back story was stupid, Bossman steals Snows pet dog then makes fried rice and feeds it to Al at a Motel 6.
Guest ManKinnd Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 The problem with this match is it couldn't be taken for what it was, which was a time filling hardcore title match. It was hyped to shit, because, after all, it had a HIAC around it. That was the problem. Everyone was expecting the end all be all of cage matches, not a silly hardcore match.
Guest muzanisa Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 Get the Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops DVD, with Foley and Kelley doing commentary and it's watchable.
Guest What?! Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 Get the Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops DVD, with Foley and Kelley doing commentary and it's watchable. Just Watchable? It made me love that match!
Guest Human Fly Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 I don't care if you had the best worker in the company in that match (insert who you think the best worker in the company is) if it's with the Bossman and in any form of a cage (or maybe in any kind of a match) and it's going to suck seriously. Can anyone think of a good Bossman match in the last few years. I can't.
Guest dreamer420 Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 The match sucked because, first off, there was no reason for the hell in the cell. the dogs were so frightened and interested in each other that they didn't even realize that a match was going on i think.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 I've never understood the hatred of the Kennel in a Cell bashing. If you take out the dogs and change who was in it you've got a pretty good match! Then you would have a different match. That's like saying, "This meal is crappy, but if you change the food in it, then it will be great!" I would've ordered the ppv just for that match if it was something like RVD vs. Tajiri or some such thing. Esp. without the dogs. Imagine the spots that would be in that match! No, seriously, imagine them. That's precisely why I wanted to see the match. This was before there were a lot of highspots in the WWF and there were only 3 HIAC matches thus far (actually I think there were 4). The matches were: HBK/Undertaker, Mankind/Undertaker and Bossman/Undertaker. Two of the matches kicked ass and gave us hsit we had never seen before, the third sucked very badly. I saw the PPV because I was curious as to how the match would turn out. It turned out with the dogs being kept on leashes by handlers while both wrestlers stayed away from the dogs and didn't do any highspots or good spots the entire match. That match was a real letdown. Imagine if you felt the way you felt about a Tajirir/RVD HIAC match and they did it, but all you got to see was a bunch of rest holds and crappy brawling with neither cage playing a factor in the match at all. I think you would bash the match too.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 yes, I guess what I'm saying is they should've saved the double layer cage thingy for a match that would be more entertaining, and the idea of the match was interesting until they used it on a low-card match with dogs in it
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 i want the triple cage wcw used in its dying days DAMN IT
Guest Ravenbomb Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 Yeah, a Five Star Splash off the top of that would kill BOTH of them...that match would rule so much they'd both be depushed to winning once in a while on Metal for the rest of their lives
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 Have you seen the match yet?
Guest papacita Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 The double cage sounded like a good idea on paper, but after seeing that match, I really don't think they should try it again. I mean, getting rid of the dogs, there's no real reason for it. I know I could think of 1 or 2 creative spots I'd like to see in such a match, but really it's just overbooking. I say either do a straight cage match or a Hell in the Cell, and don't mix the two. Also, HIAC 3 was Kane and Mankind, 8/24/98 RAW...Philly PA
Guest Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 Kennel in a Cell was a good idea, but using the dogs killed the idea. The WWF should also bring back War Games, Ready to Rumble's Triple cage, and the Dugeon of Doom's Uncensored cage.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 Maybe I was just being dumb, but I was under the impression that the dogs wouldn't be restrained on leashes the whole time by animal handlers. They were pretty pointless. What about the PPV where Austin faced Kane in the First Blood match? Wasn't there a HIAC match at that PPV? I remember the Cell being lowered onto either Austin or Kane.
Guest Zoltan Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 No, the match between Austin/Kane was supposed to be just a first blood match but during the match someone lowered the cage but it still wasn't a HIAC match.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 I'm not saying the Austin/Kane match was a HIAC match, I was saying that I think there was one on that card.
Guest bob_barron Posted April 28, 2002 Report Posted April 28, 2002 the one on that card your referring to is Mankind v. Taker. What ever happened in that HIAC match anyway?
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted April 28, 2002 Report Posted April 28, 2002 Was that the infamous Mankind/Taker match or just another match?
