Has anyone suffered from cutting their hair?

Jeff Jarrett had the long flowing blonde locks and was a comedy gimmick...He cuts the locks and gets an actual legit gimmick and gets a HUGE shove into the IC scene, in which he pissed on Vince and used the EXACT same gimmick (changing your catchphase from Don't Piss me Off to Shut Up Slapnuts isn't a change). It worked for Jarrett until he was credited for being a horrible draw for WCW and he needed David Arquette to beat DDP. Currently HHHizing his daddy's company.

Christian? Has really looked more like a superstar with the haircut. Pretty much got a push because of it and being lucky enough to be Jericho's friend.

Test? He may be one of the few who looked better with long hair.

Page, Owen, Foley, Rude, Flair, Austin and they all looked better and/or became bigger stars once cutting their hair.

Is Edge on that Bret level where his hair is so crucial to his character? I don't know. I never seen Bret with Short Hair and I dont want to...I think edge shouldn't get a Test/Christian cut but a shorter mane wouldn't hurt.

7/3 Raw in Saskatoon was even worse, with 1,100.

I remember waiting in line and waking up early back in 2002 for tickets. People slept over night. They promised a steel cage match and welched on all fo their advertised matches. I haven't been to a show since, nor will I probably ever. I am proud to say my city gave the WWE the big "fuck you" of such a minimal crowd. They won't be back for awhile, if ever. Maybe if they made their house shows worth a damn, and had people (Triple H, Flair, Jericho, Stratus, ect) on the card. Triple H and Flair's absense just smacks of neglecting the Canadian fans. Jericho was gone doing something else (he always came before) and Trish was injured.

You are such a goof.

Rick Rude was better off with his long hair, and had a better run in the WWF with it. His WCW stuff was pretty abysmal in comparison to his fueds with Jake and the Ultimate Warrior.

DDP got over HUGE when he had his long hair. Cutting it didn't bring him anything new...at all.

Jeff Jarrett's most succesful run was as Double J in 94-95. His WCW run was marred by favouratism by Russo when he simply didn't deserve/fit into the Main Event picture.

Owen? Are you on glue? He cut his hair in late 97, after all of his memorable matches with Bret and the Bulldog. He didn't come close to ever touching those memorable fueds and matches with "short hair".

Your little history lesson hasn't proven anything. Sorry.

Why are you judging how sweaty wrestlers look? That is beyond the realm of my understanding, but if thats your bag...

Owen debuted his haircut at either the September or October 1996 PPVs.

Rude was *far* better off in WCW. He never got a big run against Hogan in the WWF, and had about a month as the top heel in 1990, while in WCW, he pretty much instantly pushed Lex Luger aside and became _the_ heel and stayed at that level until, coincidentally, Hogan entered the company in 1994. For most of 1992-1994, the top heel was either Rude or Vader, while in the WWF, Rude was behind Savage, DiBiase, Hennig, Earthquake and others at various points.

The rest I'd agree with.

He worked MUCH better matches in WCW as well, while in WWF he was forced to work with Warrior most of the time.

In WCW he feuded with Steamboat, Sting, Rhodes, Windham for 2 years.

Rude was never the top heel in the WWF in 1990. Sure, he was working with the WWF Champion Ultimate Warrior, but come on. Anyone who knows the score knows that Earthquake vs. Hogan was being pushed as the big feud at that time. Earthquake was the top heel in the summer of 1990.

I think we've all missed the most earth shattering thing mentioned - A-Train will be out for 3 months!!!

on the subject of hair - it was mentioned above that Christian got a push because he cut his hair - but he actually cut his hair AFTER winning the IC title and was likely some sort of a trade-off between him and management.

The whole grunge look was in the nineties, so why is Edge still clinging to it? He wants to keep it because of the ladies? Correct me if i'm wrong but the majority of fans are male, so you would think he would want to appeal to the them so he could get a lasting main event push. Having said that, the prospect of a Hair vs Hair match between him and HHH is intriguing.

For Edge, the look works. For Xian, it didn't so much. Granted, Edge's character hasn't been accepted a whole lot, but lopping off his hair isn't really going to change it. Leave it alone, the look is marketable.

A-Train's only been on RAW one time since the draft lottery, so it's not like we can be happy or anything because he wasn't hogging TV time. Mark Henry on the other hand, yes.

Christian was rewarded with an Intercontinental Title reign which consisted of him constantly getting beaten clean in non-title matches and never winning at all. Hell, he got the I-C Title in a match he never won in the first place. What a trade-off.

Edge keeps the hair because his fans want him to. While he was doing the columns during his time off, he spoke about himself even wanting to get rid of the hair because it's too much trouble and annoys him sometimes. He asked the fans what they thought, and the overwhelming response was that he should not cut it off. I think he's refusing to cut it off because of that fact, not because of personal preference. I think he'd have had short hair when he came back if the e-mail response was the other way around.

Yes, but i'm sure Christian didn't know he would be jobbed so much when he did it. Something tells me WWE management didnt walk up to him and say "we've given you the IC title, now go and get a haircut so we can job you clean over and over again".

My A-Train comment was sarcasm, and it wasnt a complaint against him or his work. Truth be told, i have no dramas with Train and would prefer him to several others who clog up TV time.

Edge's fans wanting him to keep his hair was kinda my point. He should be trying to appeal to more fans instead of just sticking with the ones he's got (or had). He was never a main eventer before with those fans, so why would he get there now? He really has to find the happy medium and try to keep his current fans while attracting new ones. It's going to be a tough ask for him, he's tried changing to a more serious competitor but it isnt really working. Maybe a heel turn will cure his problems.

Maybe he just wants his own look, and not what's "in".

Personally, I like to have my own look, and if someone told me to change something about it because it's the style, I'd tell them to fuck themselves.

There's nothing wrong with individuality.. Edge looks fine the way he is.. I don't see why he needs to cut his hair against his will.

:headbang:

Besides.. I don't like hair vs hair matches :P

Also besides.. Personally, I don't want every wrestler in the WWE to look identicle... it's alright for a tag team to both have uniform short blonde hair, but once everyone starts getting it people lose track of who's who.

Well, that was the original excuse for Test and Christian to cut their hair. They were both part of the UnAmericans at that time and Vince wanted them to have the same hairstyles of Regal and Storm. I guess they just used that as an excuse since they kept bugging them about it.

He's stated before (and it's been mentioned in this thread) that he wanted to cut it but several fans emailed him to say not too, so it's not that he wants long hair, it's to keep the teeny bopper fans and females happy. He will not get to the top with that attitude though. Maybe Edge is just an updated version of HBK - long hair, popular in some circles, but never a real money making drawcard.

but...Shawn has good matches and can carry people who have no right to being having **** matches.

I dont see the comparison beyond the Long Hair.

I didn't compare them - i said Edge may become the next Shawn.

I say not in terms of wrestling ability but in terms of being a bad draw because he didnt change his look or character well enough to a constant money maker. Shawn is a fantastic worker and has had great matches with everyone from Bret to Sid, and i doubt Edge will ever be that good, but the comparison was for the look and the inability (or desire) to change and appeal to more sections of the fans.

Loss, I'd argue that his WWF run is WHY Rude was pushed in WCW at all.

-=Mike

I wouldn't disagree. Rude's name value from the WWF caused WCW brass to push him, since they always had a hard-on for WWF guys, even to their dying day. Rude, however, ended up more successful in WCW, having a longer run as US champ than anyone I can recall in the modern era, working on top against Sting, having a high-profile feud with Steamboat and later feuding with Flair second from the top in an abysmal feud. The lowest he ever fell down the card during this time was probably in his 1993 feud with Dustin Rhodes, and at that point, he was the #3 heel at worst, behind only Vader and Sid. I do think under Frey that he would have probably held the WCW World title in 1992, but Watts like Vader and Simmons on top. He still kept Rude in a top position though. Rude is one of the few instances of a guy being used better in WCW than the WWF.

Definitely agree Loss. Rude from 87-early 90 was treated as more of a cartoonish character in the WWF. His promos, the porn star moustache, the dancing and grinding just screamed MIDCARD at that time in WWF (it wasn't his fault, he was told to play the "Playboy" gimmick over the top)His IC title win in 89 was played up as a HUGE fluke by the announcers. It wasn't until he cut his hair and started acting seriously, that he gained credibility. Even with that, I don't think any of the fanbase in 90 thought he had a SHOT IN HELL of beating Warrior at Summerslam. The WCW Rude was cocky but could back it up and he was immediatley put over Sting in their feud to give him instant crediblity. I remember as a kid being shocked at the no nonsense Rude when watching WCW, it was definitely not the same character he played in WWF.

Not true.

According to one of Meltzer's history issues, Rude was pencilled in (by Bill Watts) to beat Ron Simmons at Starrcade 92 for the WCW Title, which would have meant he would have held the U.S. Title and the WCW Title at the same time (Rude would have been stripped of the U.S. Title, but it worked out fine anyways, because they already had the U.S. Title tournament planned that Dustin Rhodes eventually won, so they just used the injury to vacate the U.S. Title and go on with the planned tournament). But, Rude had to be scrapped from the show due to a neck injury, and the title was hotshotted back on Vader at a house show two days after the PPV because they needed a heel as champion due to booking plans. But by the time Rude was healthy again, Bischoff had taken over and didn't see Rude as WCW Title material.

If Rude had not gone injured, what you feel would have happened as He was the #3 heel in 1993 and still working good programs against Rhodes, Sting and other good workers when Hogan came in in 1994 and he was injured shortly before?
