Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 I only mind the dubbing when it's REALLY bad. It's not anime, but the Versus dubbing was so unbelievably horribly bad. Other than that, my only problem is that after hearing it in Japanese, the sound quality difference is more obvious. The talking seems more detached.
Guest Reservoir_Kitty Report post Posted July 23, 2004 But in my case, I know a little Japanese (really small amount), I can get what the regular actors say usually by the actual anime, so I don't always have to look at the subs myself. Just my case though. Yeah, I know next to nothing when it comes to the Japanese language, and the subbed DVDs that I was recently watching were done very poorly. I don't know if it was a fan sub or what, but the translations were terrible. So at that point, I was listening to the dialogue, reading the subs, thinking, "What the hell does that have to do with anything", and trying to decipher the episodes... argh! So no, that just wasn't a very good experience at all. If it was subbed better, I might not mind it, but for most of the anime I watch, I've watched them all in English, so I get to liking the VAs a lot better for that. Dama: I wasn't calling you a snob, I just know people that are like that. Two of my fiance's co-workers are totally the anime snob stereotype and flat-out refuse to watch anime in English. It's just.. annoying. So, I apologize if you thought I was calling you a snob. (We corrupted one though, and got him to watch Hellsing in English. Haha! Victory.) Damaramu 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2004 Well I'm not a snob but I still flat out refuse to watch Anime in English. But I will also flat out refuse to watch anything that's originally dubbed in English in another language to. Now if I was a snob I'd be telling you all how much better Japan is than America and how superior everything they do is to what we do......that's an anime snob. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Well I take that back. There is ONE(and ONLY one) Anime that I like in English, though I've never seen the Japanese version of it so who knows....I may like that better. That anime is Dragon Half. It was what made me fall in love with The Mighty Damaramu character. The english VA was pure utter hilarity.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2004 one peeve with listening to it in Japanese: Female voice actors doing male voices. A lot of them look like girls anyways, so when you give them girl's voices it's even harder to tell (and I don't know the male/female articles of speech for Japanese, so don't bother w/ that). At least when they do that in cartoons in English, they try to sound like a male character

She captures his innocence. You put Sean Schemmel and his deep throated grunting there and it just doesn't fit.
