EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 The Triple A All-Star game is beginning now on ESPN2. There's an interesting group of players, featuring some A level prospects (Justin Morneau in particular), some lesser prospects, and some journeymen like Trenidad Hubbard, Ernie Young, Lou Collier, and Jamey Wright. Other notable players include Dave Williams, Calvin Pickering, Dan Haren, Clint Barnes, Ben Hendrickson, Geronimo Gil, Jhonny Peralta, and Corey Hart.
sfaJack Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 The way they were talking up Justin Morneau in his last AB, I was surprised to see he's only at A level.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 15, 2004 Author Report Posted July 15, 2004 That Morneau is still in the minors is absolutely criminal. He is, without a doubt, twice the hitter Doug Mientkiewicz is. He's perhaps the best hitter the Twins have, either in the majors or the minors. He's hitting 305/377/615 in Rochester. He has nothing left to prove in the minors.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 15, 2004 Author Report Posted July 15, 2004 Tied at 2 in the bottom of the 7th. Good pitchers' game. If the game is tied at the end of nine, they get one extra inning.
treble Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 I think Minnesota might be keeping Morneau in the minors for now so he can play in the Olympics.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 15, 2004 Author Report Posted July 15, 2004 The game's going into the bottom of the 10th (and last) inning. This has been very enjoyable.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 15, 2004 Author Report Posted July 15, 2004 Andy Phillips hits a walk-off home run with two out in the 10th! Just amazing.
sfaJack Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 Sweet ending. Hard to top that. Very enjoyable game. I'll have to tune in next year for sure.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 15, 2004 Author Report Posted July 15, 2004 Games like this restore my faith in baseball.
Vern Gagne Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 That Morneau is still in the minors is absolutely criminal. He is, without a doubt, twice the hitter Doug Mientkiewicz is. Ron Gardenhire wants him on the Twins. He recently said he's wanted Morneau on the team the entire year. Of course know the problem is with Stewart back, the Twins don't have a spot for him. Ford isn't sitting, and like it or not Dougie Alphabet isn't sitting. Hopefully Dougies wrist injury leads to a stint on the DL.
