Jessica Simpson joining X-Men Cast

Recommended Posts

Jubilee and Boom Boom/Meltdown have totally different powers: Jubilee creates generic fireworks made out of plasma while Boom Boom creates round energy bombs that explode.

As for Dazzler, she debuted in the first portion of the Dark Phoenix Saga (UXM #129-131) and didn't join the team until the Mutant Massacre, when she got possessed by Mr Sinister flunky Malice. She joined the team in UXM #214 and stayed on until UXM #251 when she got zapped into the Siege Perilous. She hung around for a couple of more issues before being zapped into comic book limbo. She resurfaced in the pages of adjectiveless X-Men and played a major part in Jim Lee's final X-Men story and would have continued to appear if not for Jim Lee revealing that she was pregnant with Shatterstar, which was a fuck-you to Lee's editor Bob Harras and to his replacement writer Fabian Nicieza, who both hated Dazzler and who had tried desperately to convince Jim not to use her in his X-Book. Needless to say, Dazzler quickly miscarried and was tossed back into obscurity while Shatterstar suddenly started talking about being a test-tube baby...

That's pretty much along the same lines. You create something, it explodes. Jubilee CAN create massive explosions (like in that Mandarin-Psylocke storyline) but she's never been able to control them at that level. Meltdown has.

And I can't say I really cared for Dazzler much either, aside from the Fall of the Mutants storyline (she had a mask grafted onto her face. Or she was blinded. It's a bit fuzzy right now). Or Shatterstar, who I think had to be retconned because Liefeld drew him with 5 fingers (it's a rather complicated story for non-comic fans, I won't get into that here).

Actually she had a masked literally nailed onto her face via a huge knife that was stabbed into her forehead by Spiral.

As for the Shatterstar thing, his origin is definately convoluted especially when you take into account the origin they ultimately stuck him with after Fabian left X-Force. It was ultimately retconned that Shatterstar really was a brain-dead twenty-something human named Ben Russell who Spiral brainwashed/gene-spliced into thinking he was a warrior called Shatterstar that hailed from the future. A story that was made even more convoluted with the way that it is shown that Shatterstar's creation came about do to a time-loop where Shatterstar is killed and in order to revive him so as to stop Mojo, Spiral went back in time and proceded to revive Ben Russell and turn him into Shatterstar only to take him into the future to save the members of X-Force....

Dazzler was a shitty character and I don't want to see her have a big role in X3.

I wouldn't say her whole character is bad...I know next to nothing about the character, but I don't find the character design (the look, that is) to be at all pleasing. I find it ugly, gaudy, and just plain goofy-looking, even for a superhero.

If they could redo it and make it practical and appealing, like they did the team uniforms, then I'd say it could work. If she is a fairly important character during the Phoenix saga (which it seems she is...) then it's good and fine to have her in the movie.

That doesn't mean I agree with the casting choice at all.

Well I was somewhat on the mark there. Was it Destiny's mask?

That Dazzler cover was from the 80's btw.

She's not, really. The storyline had the X-Men splitting up to find two mutants that popped up on Cerebro. One was Dazzler, the other ended up being much more important to the X-Universe - Kitty Pryde.

"That Dazzler cover was from the 80's btw."

I'd seen at least one other costume design, and I didn't like that one either. :P

I've never liked the "eye spark" thing at all, regardless of it is on Dazzler or Cable or anyone.

EDIT: there was a "skimpier" silver costume, right?

If they were to go with this version I don't know if they'd have gone with Jessica, since she seems to look far more like the version on the 80's cover...

Jessica Simpson Has NOT Been Cast in X-Men 3 Source: 20th Century Fox Thursday, July 15, 2004

We've been getting e-mails about the latest Jessica Simpson rumor about every 10 minutes, so we thought we'd get the official word from 20th Century Fox. And guess what, a big surprise here, it's NOT true! The rumor got started at Dark Horizons which last week reported...

"What took me off guard as how our paper goes on to say how Jessica is possibly auditioning for a role as a superhero called Dazzler. The article goes on to say that producers where impressed with a small audition tape that the singer-actress sent them upon request, and will possibly give her a small role in the 3rd "X-Men" movie as a lounge-singer, to introduce the character of Dazzler, in hopes to extend the character's role in future films.

Then, The Irish Examiner made it sound like they talked to a "source" regarding the matter, without making reference to the DH story...

Singing beauty Jessica Simpson has landed a role in the third X-Men movie, just weeks after bagging a part in The Dukes of Hazzard. The Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica singer has proved to be a huge hit with producers and will play a mutant superhero called Dazzler alongside Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. A source says: "Jessica sent an audition tape and producers were impressed. "They will possibly give her a small role in X-Men 3 as a lounge-singer to introduce the character of Dazzler."

20th Century Fox tells Superhero Hype! that there isn't even a script yet for the third film and that NO ONE has been cast yet.

1. It was indeed Destiny's mask that Spiral used along with her knife to fuck with Dazzler

2. They can always do what they did on the X-Men cartoon and boil down the whole opening arc to Cyclops seeing Dazzler at a club, catching Donald Pierce trying to capture Dazzler, and have Cyclops beat the shit out of Pierce.

3. As for pictures of Dazzler, here are some pictures of her in her various X-Men costumes:

Here is a picture of the Jim Lee redesign costume that Dazzler wore during the 90s...

If one of them were to be used, the 90's one should be. It's the closest to the movie uniforms while not being extremely plain, and won't look extremely silly on the screen...

Good thing it seems to be just a rumor still. That'd suck. :P
