HandofFate 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 I'm going with Alex Shelley vs Roderick Strong. Though am I the only one who thinks that Alastair Ralphs looks like HHH? It's also a lil weird cuz he has Test's moveset?
Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 I said Alex Shelley vs Roderick Strong...even know I didn't like the match that much it seemed... I'm not much into the indies..so I haven't seen Strong before...but in that match...he seemed...very, lackadasical? :/ Or however you spell it. Mainly I noticed it through the arm exchange they started with in the beginning of the match..he looked like he was just sort of...standing there. Where as most people try to sell as if an arm wrench hurts... But like a week or two or ago, even though I wasn't big on Shelley at first, I've been to like him. Mainly that bad ass knee backbreaker move.
Guest Fiscusalicious Report post Posted July 17, 2004 What was the deal with Strong only busting out two backbreakers (well, one backbreaker and one gut buster)? The man is known for the fact that he has m ore backbreaker variations than anyone alive. If they wanted the crowd to pop at a unique move you'd think they would have had him use some of his rediculous ones. To the previous poster, if Roderick Strong hangs around, give him another chance. He's much better than he was tonight, trust me.

iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 Well, I guess the main event was my favorite match, since it actually went a decent amount of time. Anyway, watching Impact today was my first experience with TNA, and I have to say that I was kind of impressed. The six-sided ring, the match timer, and even the names across the top give it a totally different feel than the WWE. I might even go so far as to say that it looked more professional than the WWE. The show was far above a Velocity or Heat, and I could see how the PPV looked more intriguing than a Raw or Smackdown. I think the TV show could easily develop a following, but they need to do a couple things. They need to have a couple matches a night where the endings aren't telegraphed. As in, just put a couple upper-midcarders against each other and let them go at it. It kind of reminded me of WCW, in that even if you didn't follow the storylines, you could tell who was going to win every match. Also, upgrade the quality of the squashes a little bit. I get the general formula that they're introducing the main stars on Impact, so you'll pay to see them face each other on the PPV. But at least put the stars against lower-midcarders that can be seen to have a little bit of a chance against them. Then, once every two or three months, you can throw an upset in there to keep things fresh. They're walking a delicate line trying to interest people in the product with the TV show, while still keeping the PPVs more significant to the point that people will pay $10 a week to see them. However, I think if they upgrade the TV show just a little bit more, they could really increase the scope of their audience without threatening their PPV revenue. It really wouldn't take much to draw 0.6 or 0.7 on Fox Sports, and if they get good ratings, they might be able to get a prime time show, do monthly PPVs, and really compete with the WWE.
