MrRant 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2004 (edited) A 59-year-old Excelsior, Minn., man has been accused of grafting photos of female relatives to pornographic images on a Web site he was operating. Stephen Spaulding Morse is facing five counts of criminal defamation, and one count of distribution and exhibition of obscene materials. All are gross misdemeanors, and each carries a potential penalty of a year in jail, a $3,000 fine or both. Morse, who has also operated a poetry Web site that for a time carried a connection to the pornographic site, allegedly used a digital camera to photograph relatives attending his son's wedding, superimposed their faces onto figures involved in sex acts and posted them on his Web site. According to the complaint, a young family member researching family genealogy typed in her mother's name and was linked to an image of her mother engaging in oral sex. South Lake Minnetonka police Investigator Stephen Neururer ultimately found five different female relatives of Morse's pictured in similar sex acts. Neururer said the victims "feel betrayed, violated, shocked, very angry and hurt by this." Neururer and Paul Schnell, a spokesman for the federally funded Minnesota Internet Crimes Against Children task force, agreed that most anti-pornography investigative energy is directed at child pornography, the possession of which is a felony. There have not been many complaints about the manipulation of adult images into pornography. "But the case itself is not surprising," Schnell, a St. Paul police officer. "The more we move into the digital age, the more commonplace these types of things have become. It could be far worse than most people know. There could be pictures of you out there naked that you have no idea about." Said Neururer, "You can't walk around with a blur in front of your face. I don't know how you're going to stop it." Neururer added that there were images of other women on Morse's Web site, which has been shut down, that he is still trying to identify. And there is no way of knowing whether the images of the five relatives have since been copied and distributed among other Web sites. He also said Morse has not discussed the case with him. Morse could not be reached by telephone or e-mail Friday. He has not been arrested; the charges will be sent to him by mail. http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4880614.html I meant to put this in General Chat. If a mod could move... that would be great.
