Mother 3 to See 2005 Release

07.22.2004

JEFFREY ADASHEK

STAFF REPORTER

Series writer Shigesato Itoi has revealed that Mother 3 is roughly 60 percent complete, and will be set for release in late 2005. This is the first word on the game since it was mentioned in a Japanese commercial for Mother 1+2.

There is no word thus far on a North American release for the game, which was originally known as Earthbound 64. RPGamer will bring you more information on this title as it becomes available.

Just thought I should bring this comforting news to the many Earthbound fans. Rejoice! It lives.

Although, I must admit that it is kinda interesting that last year, they announced it dead, and yet here it is 60% complete. :D Looks like someone was bullshitting us.

Well, that WAS unexpected. That's pretty awesome, though.

I'll believe it when it comes out and I'm playing it.

So far it is only Japan that is seeing it, as there is only a release date of 2005 for Japan. So you may not get to play it regardless if it does comeout.

Usually games like that that have been in the works so long...by then you don't usually want them to surface.

Other than that, I think I mostly agree with YNA...too little too late unless it is beyond awesome.

Never heard about it for GBA....

However, considering the DS is, power-wise, like a portable N64 with a bit more oomph, I wouldn't be surprised to see it as a DS title.

DS is always a possibility.

Basically, I was clicking around on IGN a couple months ago, looking for info on the series. I saw the Mother 1+2 re-release, and Mother 3, but all were listed under the GBA category, which is the same thing I saw when I went back today.

Considering 2005 is when the new Nintendo system is supposed to be unvieled, I'd say that Mother 3 would most likely be for the new system.

By that you mean the new console?

A delayed game finally coming out after skipping 2 console generations. That's one I haven't heard before.

I don't think GBA because Mother 3 was a full 3-D game and was planned for the 64DD. A GBA game would mean they scrapped absolutely everything about it, but if it is for a newer system they could easily use what they had as a foundation of sorts for a new game. Of course, even then it may be waaaay out of date, so maybe GBA isn't that crazy of an idea after all.

I have the Mother 1 rom for NES on my comp along with an Emulator. I have Earthbound rom for the SNES Eumlator on my comp as well.

Nintendo needs more RPGs. Its one of the reasons I got rid of my GC. So I'm not going to buy a next gen console from them just to play more platformers and stupid shit like that.

Remember how long it took Ocarina to be made? When Nintendo delays something, it usually ends up being awesome. I'll be looking forward to seeing what happens with it.
