Guest MikeSC Report post Posted August 21, 2004 The polling firm that foresaw a massive Chavez (Penn Schoen) defeat STILL believes that there was MASSIVE fraud in the electoral process. They point out that independent exit polls were not permitted (something Jimmy Carter opposed in EVERY election he has ever overseen, for reasons lost on everybody) and that there is sufficient reason to believe that Chavez had a real reason AND ability to cheat. As this article points out, cheating would be exceptionally easy here and that nobody seems anxious to even ASK about it is odd. Keep in mind, Penn Schoen is a very solid, very reputable polling firm that has worked for successful candidates in the past, including BOTH Clintons. -=Mike
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2004 Wouldn't surprise me, this is pretty common in South America. As for the exit polling issue you raised: I'm not against exit polling in principle, but sometimes the way the media uses it (such as the really early Gore call in Florida in 2000 based on a couple of exit polls) deserves some criticism. Maybe exit polls should be done, but their results cannot be made public until the real polls close. Or something similar.

Guest Paul H. Report post Posted August 23, 2004 No. I'm very serious these third world counrties are lil hell-holes waiting to explode and it's not like we don't actually "own" them so why wait to let this and similar situation deteriorate any further? We should go in there. Same as Columbia, the goverment has been getting their asses handed to them for over 40 years! For decades the drug-trafficking problems has effected the states'security.Solution=Go in there. The world would be a better place if all strong countries handled these rag-tag nations. They are the ones holding everyone back. Ex.Middle East..a problem the british should have been dealt with way back in the 50's has deteriortaed into a fuciking nightmare. If they would have stood their ground and kicked some ass we wouldn't have this problem.
