treble 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2004 So, Australia upsets Japan 1-0 to make to the gold medal game tomorrow and in the other game Cuba comes from behind to beat Canada 8-5, even though Canada came within about a foot of tying it with a 3 run shot with 2 down in the 9th. An awesome game, even if I was a little upset with the outcome. Cuba will probably take the gold, and Japan will probably bounce back and take the bronze. I figured that, since Canada spanked the Aussies in the round robin that at least a bronze would be possible for them if it was the likely Cuba/Japan gold medal game, but now that doesn't look like it's going to happen. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2004 Canada's hopes really died when Justin Morneau and Jeff Francis were pulled from the team.
treble 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2004 The team's actually carrying around a Morneau Bobblehead that they picked up in Rochester a few months back. But yeah, losing those 2 hurt. I can understand the Twins calling up Morneau, but not so much the Rockies with Francis. If they were in a pennant race, I'd understand why they'd want to do it, but would there really be any harm in sending him to the Olympics and maybe having him win a medal? You'd think that would help his confidence, or something. If you want to call him up, it could wait until after he's back from Athens. I think the Padres let one of their top pitching prospects go to pitch for Australia, and they actually have a shot at the wild card.

Chris Oxspring is decent, but he's not much of a prospect, and he's not a top guy the Padres are counting on for their future.
Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2004 Didn't Canada defeat Japan in the round robin? Nope. They beat us 11-2 so our hopes for a bronze are slim. However, Australia beat Japan twice so you never know. I sure hope it happens.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2004 Canada's baseball talent really seems to be improving. They should do well for themselves if a World Cup ever happens.
Guest Jimbo Report post Posted August 25, 2004 Sorry for not paying attention, but why didn't the US field an team this year? They seemed to be pretty competitive last time with the minor leaguer's and vets under Lasorda. Why not this year? Thanks.
