He was recognized as Champion, therefore he won the title. It's not a matter of what you "go with."

As far as WWE champion (which Orton slipped and referred to himself as in the post-SS RAW promo) they're clear, since they're the only promotion around more or less--sorry TNA--they can go the 'We can have two world titles, and just refer to one as World Champion' route and not miss by a whole lot.

Yes because he scored a pinfall over Hogan to win the title and then had it stripped when he tried to give it to Dibiase.

I think historians have given the wwe flack over the Orton marketing. First they had Orton say youngest WWE Heavyweight Champion(which I believe was purposely done). Second, on the recap shows they edited Orton's speech with him saying world heavyweight champion. Then on raw the wwe slipped it by everyone by saying he is the youngest world champion in WWE HISTORY. Yeah, they pay attention to THIS detail.

Yeah of course Andre was champ. Dibiase is the one that some people try to debate. But he was never officially recognized as champ by WWE, so he doesn't count. But just because Andre gave up the title, doesn't change the fact that he beat Hogan. I mean by that logic, Vince McMahon was never champ because he gave up the title, or HBK's second title reign wouldn't count because he forfeited.

 

Bottom line, Andre is a former WWE Champion....and now JBL has it....DAMN!

Actually, Ted Dibase was recognized as champion at Madison Square Garden the weekend Andre surrendered the title. However, the following week on superstars Tunney did not recognize it. So, yeah Dibase isn't a former champion , but kudos to them for THIS detail as well.
