Guest Incandenza Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Prince covering "One of Us." Man, this is so awesome. Emancipation sucks, but this one song is worth the price of admission (keep in mind I paid $6.99 for the three disc set). It's vintage Prince, what with the vocals and guitar and shit. Just awesome.
Guest Anorak Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 'Heywood Lane' -- Gorky's Zygotic Mynci
Guest Gamengiri2002 Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 Enon "High Society" I'm trying to piece together a top ten at the moment, so far all I have locked are: Source Tags and Codes Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (Guaranteed Numero Uno) Turn On The Bright Lights Kill the Moonlight Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots I have to decide on the other five but I won't feel right picking them until I give "When I was Cruel" a fair listen to.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 Prince covering "One of Us." Man, this is so awesome. Yea, why is Emanicpation so cheap anyway? I mean it's three discs... is it really THAT bad that that's the only way they can sell it? Anyway, to contribute to the thread... Devo - "Satisfaction"
Guest spiny norman Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 BeeGees - You Win Again. Just changed to: Tiffany - I Think We're Alone Now
Guest Incandenza Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 Prince covering "One of Us." Man, this is so awesome. Emancipation sucks, but this one song is worth the price of admission (keep in mind I paid $6.99 for the three disc set). It's vintage Prince, what with the vocals and guitar and shit. Just awesome. Yea, why is Emanicpation so cheap anyway? I mean it's three discs... is it really THAT bad that that's the only way they can sell it? Anyway, to contribute to the thread... Devo - "Satisfaction" I dunno. Like most of America, I didn't give two shits about Prince during the mid 90's, when he was releasing shitty album after shitty album just to get out of his contract with Warner Bros. But yeah, Emancipation contains about an EP's worth of good material, mercilessly spread out over three goddamn discs. But check out that "One of Us" cover. It blows the original out of the water, as well as anything else during the three hours of tedium that is this triple album.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 He was clearly full-on loopy by that point. Releasing a 3-disc album as your supposed *comeback* is insane. The 90's produced some wonderful bits: a few gems off Prince and the New Power Generation (aka the Love Symbol Album), like "My Name Is Prince" and "Sexy M.F." and "Seven," some scattered goodies like "Cream" and "Gett Off"...but altogether, not so hotso for the Purple Man. Right now: fittingly enough, "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man." Prince writes narrative better than any other storyteller of his time, dammit.
Guest spiny norman Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 Mid-90s Prince was not that bad, and I don't think nobody cared about him. Most Beautiful Girl In The World, anyone?
Guest Incandenza Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 But the love symbol album was the last time that Prince seemed to care about releasing quality material. After that, he was merely filling out contractual obligations. And saying no one gave a shit about him during the mid 90s may be a bit strong, but the man made it awfully hard to care.
Guest DragonflyKid Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 Bored by everything on the radio I've started listening to Classical stuff. Mozart's Requiem and Ravel's Bolero are my favorite's so far.
Guest spiny norman Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 I just heard the Prince version of One Of Us. Damn, that's absolutely brilliant. Joan Osborne eat your heart out. Of his 90s stuff I would say Diamonds And Pearls to be his best song. That is a really beautiful song. But, right now, I'm listening to Batdance.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 R.E.M. - "Shiny Happy People" I dunno, my favorite '90s Prince song was "Pussy Control". Maybe it's just me.
Guest Incandenza Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 I just heard the Prince version of One Of Us. Damn, that's absolutely brilliant. Joan Osborne eat your heart out. See what I mean? "Sex and Dying in High Society"--X
