Going to Las Vegas

Recommended Posts

I'm leaving this weekend for Las Vegas. I wanted to know if anyone could recommend clubs, casinos, shows, etc that would be worth checking out while in Vegas.

Clubs:

The Beach (on its own over at Paradise and Convention Center Dr.) Like $10 to get in, opens from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM, they're not realyl anal on dress code, and forgot what night it is, but ladies get in and drink for free. Its a mix of 60 - 80s music, techno, and R&B depending on what night you go in.

These places are like $20 to get in and they'll pretty much allow any kind of dress for women:

The Luxor has RA, not too bad of a place. It was a mix of old school rock, pop, and techno when I went.

Treasure Island has Tangerine.

New York, New York has Coyote Ugly.

Caesar's Palace has OPM.

The Barbary Coast has Drayes.

The Rio has Club Rio.

The MGM has Studio 54.

The Bellagio has Light.

The Mandalay Bay has The Rum Jungle.

There's Club Ice, its on its own on Harmon and Koval. Its an R&B place, and I think its techno / dance on Tuesday and Saturdays.

I can't really comment on where to go as it really depends on your taste on how you like your environments, but I did enjoy the Beach and Ice a lot.

Just be careful when you go to clubs, people will come to every ten minute trying to get a hook-up mostly just for the one night stand. :P Bring a buddy also in case you get too much alcohol and can't think properly.

I have absolutely no ideas about clubs, since I'm too fat and non-beautiful and unwilling to lose my hearing. If you mean strip clubs, there's a few that everybody agrees are better than the others. I don't go to those either but I've read about them and have a vague knowledge of what's good and what's a ripoff.

However, I go to Vegas several times a year to see the shows and gamble, so if you need some help in that category, holla. I might have some advice learned from experience for you depending on what hotel you're staying at.

My favorite shows are Blue Man Group (at Luxor) and Mystere (Treasure Island.) BMG is the guys you may remember from the Intel ads, it's a rock show with silent comedy and interesting special effects, hard to describe but you either love it or you loathe it. Mystere is a Cirque Du Soleil production and while I was apprehensive about seeing it (I cringe and heave at most the Cirque work I'd seen previously) I love the show. None of those weird people bending their bodies and half and other freakshow work, it's more of a gymnastic exhibition with a cohesive story that's pretty to look at. Think of people doing acrobatic tricks, swinging from person to person in the air, and bouncing off a bunch of trampoline walls left right and center, with a really interesting soundtrack.

Tickets for both those shows run about $100 a person so be ready. If you aren't interested in that kind of culture, or just want something cheaper, say so and I'll see what I can dig up.

How about something slightly seedy where I can go in totally twisted and not get arrested? I don't want any of that pristine giant hotels full of families and tourists sorta shit.

Thanks for all the great advice.

Jobber I'm staying at the Luxor in Vegas. I already have Blue Man Group on my list of shows to see. Some people have recommended Mystere and Zumanity so I may check out those shows as well. If you can recomend any other shows, or places to gamble I would really appreciate it.
