Guest Nanks Report post Posted September 10, 2004 Well I know there are some Poms around the place who should be taking an interest in this, it is being hosted in England after all. Has this come up on the radar for any of the Yanks though?? The US is actually fielding a side in the tournament this year by virtue of the fact that they won the qualifying tournament against assorted other cricketing minnows like Holland & Canada back in March. However they're in a pool with Australia & New Zealand and will be duly punished and provide little more than novelty value in the comp. Nonetheless, I wonder if ESPN or anyone has actually bothered to notice. Australia looks the goods to break the hoodoo and complete the set of International Cricket trophies by the way. Guest Nanks Report post Posted September 11, 2004 Damn you people, my thread must not be panished to Page 2 hell. Your own country is involved here, damnit. You got totally rolled by New Zealand last night by the way. Over 200 runs. It wasn't pretty.
Ced 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2004 Cricket doesn't even register a blip on the American sports radar, even with a team of ours in the running. I'm not even sure that most Americans even know what cricket is let alone know the specific rules (I fall under the latter category myself). I think it's because we have baseball, which is to cricket as American football is to football.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted September 11, 2004 What I find strange is that whilst I love my cricket and Aussie Rules. I understand and appreciate baseball and actually enjoy NFL. I didn't used to, but I took the time to learn the game, purely because I'm a sports fan, and now I genuinely enjoy watching and following NFL. Yet, the Australian involvement is limited to two punters.
