Guest bigm350 Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I've been looking on ebay and seeing if I could get a good deal on a wrestling belt. Particularly the old school NWA belt held by Race, Dusty, Flair, Brisco, etc. I found one for an opening bid of $100 but I don't know; I think the wife would kill me if I bid on it. Anyway, my question is how much would you be willing to spend on one of these replica belts? And if you have one or more how much did you spend?
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Most people that I know spent no less than $200 on one. For me, that isn't going to happen(one, I don't have extra money for it and two, the principal that I really can't do anything with it)but if I wanted one bad enough I couldn't see paying anymore than $100 for it.

Very good points. I see people on ebay that sell 'real' belts with real leather, and gold plating, etc for $1000 or more. I don't understand why anyone would spend that much on a belt. Makes no sense to me.
Slickster Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Well, there is a significant difference you get from the $1000 ones: 1) rare designs (NWA Central States Title, for example) 2) design your own belt (100% to your own specs) 3) hand-tooled leather 4) heavier, thicker plates 5) better paint 6) more intricate artwork 7) a logo plate (you could personalize the belt with it) 8) the satisfaction of knowing you've got a one-of-a-kind collectible. It's like the people who spend $$$ customizing a car or collecting weapons; it's a niche market for people who have a lifelong passion for it (most makers/buyers of these $1000 belts are over 30 and have been wrestling fans for decades).
Guest Staravenger Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Unless I had a shitload of spare change to spend on useless crap, then $0.00. Wrestling belts really aren't that great, and the only place you WOULDN'T get laughed at for having is at wrestling events, but that 1% of life compared to the other 99% isn't worth it. Just blow the money on beer or something you can enjoy everywhere.
AnonymousBroccoli Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 I don't think I'd want to spend a whack of money on a belt, unless I earned the original in the first place.
Guest Dan 420 Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 I would only wear it to wrestling shows which is rare and the rest of the time it would sit on display so not very much...$100 at the most for a good belt with leather.
