Madden help

Recommended Posts

Ugh, I've had it.

I'm playing my buddy in Madden. I can move the ball up and down the field and put up plenty of points. But my defense just plain sucks. I cannot make a stop. It is embarassing.

Every scheme I try to run, he's got an out. Blitz from the outside? He's got an outlet receiver. Blitz inside? He's got a wideout or a tight end crossing over the middle. Don't blitz at all? He sits back in the pocket all day and finds a guy because my front four get zero pass rush.

I should be winning these games, but my albatross of a defense is just KILLING ME.

For those of you with Madden, any suggestions of defensive schemes or techniques you use, especially against human opponents?

1: Mix it up

2: Either learn how to pass rush or cover D. A real person can't play both spots take or the other, then swtich later on.

3: If all else fails the best defense is a good offense, be the 2000 Rams where you give up 30 or so points but score 40 or so.

I still have Madden '04 in rotation, and I have no friends so I just play the PC. However, I've found that a bend-don't-break D is the best way to go for me.

I usually don't blitz more than one person until the opponent gets close to the red zone, and I always try to keep my safties deep to prevent the big play...

"Learn how to pass rush."

OK, any suggestions on how to do that? It still seems to me that 5 offensive linemen blocking 4 defensive linemen is going to create a problem for bringing the heat.

Play as the Ravens..

I took a shutout on the browns in week 1 on 2005 into the 4th quarter with a fumble and Int return for TD among my scoring. In the 4th, Garcia hit someone deep and I had McCallister on coverage and I went for the hit stick and got burned for a 73 yard TD. I went on to win 34-7.

It was funny though, because the Browns were able to stop Jamal just as in real life week 1..

FUUUUUUUCK!

So I tweaked my sliders a bit for a more competitive game, and I lost to the Ravens 14-13 on a last-second play, but that's not what I'm pissed about.

In the third quarter the Ravens had a first and 10 at my 11-yard line. They got a first down at the 1 and I held them until fourth down when I called a "B blitz" and they ran a toss play. Oh I was pissed. I held them for seven plays and if I would have went with my second hunch I probably would have stopped them. Felt like this was the appropriate place to bitch about this...

With an average Saints defense, I've done well with a QB Contain defense, primarily because I always start out as a DE, and if they go to pass, I just switch to the closest defender to the intended receiver. 90% of the time I'm able to either deflect or intercept the ball. (If they do run the ball, my DE is there to stop it).

Play a soft defense between the 20s. Let him gain his yards and get to the redzone, maybe even inside the 15. This is where he'll have the most trouble since he's a pass happy player. He'll have limited space and you can easily defend his receivers enough so that he'll have to kick field goals on most of his visits.

Also the occassional saftey or cornerback blitz might catch him by surprise.
