I just had a little kid ask me if it was OK for

Recommended Posts

OK, now I could go on and say OMG KERRY SUPPORTERS R THUGZ/ETC., and the guy that did this is a fuckwad, but what in the blue hell was the father expecting taking his 3-year-old kid to an event like this? In some ways I'm more pissed at the dad than I am at the Democrat union whore.

But with all that said, man I can't wait until this Kerry supporter's name/address/phone number gets revealed...

THE WASHINGTON SLIMES LOL2004

A West Virginia man said yesterday that Democrats stole his family's Bush-Cheney campaign signs at an event featuring Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards.

"They just pounced on us," said Phil Parlock, who took his 11-year-old son, Alex, and 3-year-old daughter, Sophia, to the Democratic rally at Tri-State Airport in Huntington, W.Va.

Sophia became briefly famous yesterday when an Associated Press photo showing her in tears after Democrats tore her sign to pieces was posted on Matt Drudge's Web site, www.drudgereport.com.

"She was crying; they were pushing and shoving her," said Mr. Parlock, a Huntington real estate agent. "She was scared."

Sophia is the youngest of 10 children in a proudly patriotic family. The oldest two Parlock children, a 22-year-old daughter and a 21-year-old son, are members of the West Virginia Army National Guard, and a third Parlock — who recently turned 18 — will be sworn into the guard tomorrow, Mr. Parlock said.

The Parlocks went to Mr. Edwards' airport rally yesterday "to support the president," Mr. Parlock said, and brought nine Bush-Cheney signs with them.

"We stood there quietly while Senator Edwards went through the receiving line," he said. Then, as the North Carolina Democrat prepared to leave, Mr. Parlock said, "I took out a few Bush-Cheney signs, gave one to Alex, and Sophia and I held up one jointly."

Immediately, he said, the family was set upon by supporters of Mr. Edwards and Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry — "mostly the painters union guys" — who "started stealing my signs." Soon, "old women and college students joined in the fracas," said Mr. Parlock, describing himself as "strictly a volunteer, grass-roots supporter" of the president. Mr. Parlock ran unsuccessfully for his local school board this year.

After the family returned home from the rally yesterday, he said, a friend called to tell him about the AP photo on the Drudge site. "In the picture, you can see one of the painters union guys has a piece of one of my signs in his hand."

A call to the Kerry-Edwards campaign last night was not returned.

Anti-war demonstrators have complained in recent weeks that they have been manhandled by security agents at Bush-Cheney campaign events.

I honestly do think, and this goes for any political party regardless of affiliation/country, that this is not the policys of the partys themselves, but rather over zealous local volunteers/workers, who get swept up and try to act like dictators, for the general election in 1992 I volunteered to help out my local party, and although there was strict rules re: electeering(spel?), people were over zealous when speaking to people/knocking on doors, etc.

That picture is what I like to refer to as good parenting.

:P

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Unfortunately, all the naysayers are making Bush look better than he deserves to look.

Why? It's not like Republican children don't cry. And the same thing would happen if a kid wanted to support Kerry at a Bush speech.

My confusion is, if they showed up as protestors at a Kerry rally and were attacked, does that mean first amendment doesn't count or something?

Ah hell, I'm not done with my coffee yet.

I sure hope some blame is going to be put on the father for putting his three-year-old daughter in danger.

Let me get this straight: Unless this man has been living under a rock, he KNOWS that this might be one of the most brutally divisive Presidential elections in U.S. History. So what does he do?

He brings his family - an 11-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter - to a Pro-Democratic rally and hands them "Bush-Cheney" posters to be proudly displayed. Keep in mind that this is a crowd full of people with no larger desire than to see Bush out of the White House as soon as possible. What was he thinking here?

Freedom of speech is one of the principles of this country - but there's no excuse for bringing your three-year-old daughter into something that could be so dangerous. If he wanted to get involved with trying to ruin this Democratic rally, fine. But it is just completely irresponsible to force your family to possibly put their well-being in danger as well.

The man who ripped the sign up is a douchebag, agreed.

The father who would make his toddler daughter do something like this is an even BIGGER douchebag.

Seriously, this guy was using his 3 year old daughter to make sure he got into the papers. How better to make the OMGVIRULENTANTIEVERYTHINGLEFT~! look worse than making a 3 year old girl cry? Prick.

For what it's worth, this man has "claimed" to be assaulted in the last 3 Presidential elections.

And there is a good chance that the guy in the union shirt next to him --- is related to him.

Well, if you listen to the left, anyway

Oh taking his three year old daughter was definitely press bait. Earlier this morning, I didn't exactly absorb that aspect since... well, I had just woken up.

Now, if this had happened without his daughter, we wouldn't have heard crap, but his case would have... y'know, existed.

Everything is relative in West Virginia. ;)

Charleston (WV) Daily Mail, August 27, 1996, Page 3C

Phil Parlock's experience was less calm.

The Huntington man said he was knocked to the ground by a Clinton supporter when he tried to display a sign that read "Remember Vince Foster," the deputy White House counsel who committed suicide in a Washington, D.C., park. His death has become the subject of much debate among Clinton opponents.

"It must have been a strict Democrat who did this," Parlock said, feeling the red abrasions on his face. "Everyone with the exception of him was real peaceful about our protest."

Parlock said some of the crowd tried to make other anti-Clinton demonstrators feel unwelcome. He estimated that about 150 Dole supporters attended the rally, but their signs couldn't be seen for most of the rally.

Charleston (WV) Daily Mail, October 28, 2000, pg. 1A:

Phil Parlock didn't expect to need all 12 of the Bush-Cheney signs he and his son Louis smuggled in their socks and pockets into the rally for Vice President Al Gore.

But each time they raised a sign, someone would grab it out of their hands, the two Huntington residents said. And sometimes it got physical.

"I expected some people to take our signs," said Louis, 12. "But I did not expect people to practically attack us."

The two said they didn't go to the Friday morning rally to start trouble.

"I came to support Bush and try to change some people's minds," Louis said.

(they suspect that the kid in the grey sweater or the blue shirt was the Union guy)

I guess Parlock can always go back to his job as a Bush campaign worker if exploiting his children to win votes for the GOP doesn't work out for him.

I guess it's either that, or fathering child #11

This was very unfortunate, but EVERY effort was taken to prevent this. When Phil Parlock came to the gate, he was checked for signs (Both campaigns prohibit bringing in outside signs to events) and asked by several volunteers not to cause any trouble.

After he got in the event and pulled out the sign he was not supposed to have, people in the crowd simply tried to stand in front of him. The sign wasn't torn out of his hands until he verbally provoked people in the crowd. Throughout all of this, he was repeatedly asked to leave.

The story here is not that someone ripped the sign out of his hands and made the girl cry. The story is: what kind of father puts their child in a situation like this? I've seen him do this or something like this at several events. He puts his own children in situations where people will be hostile to them so that he can make some half-assed political statement. It's irresponsible and unfair to his children.

For the Record, There were not supposed to be any signs brought in without proior approval from the secret service. Steelworkers Local 37 brought a banner to support the Kerry/Edwards ticket, but were not allowed to bring it in because the secret service did not have a chance to inspect it first.

It seems to me that if signs in support were not allowed, then signs in opposition should not be allowed either.

This man violated secret service orders and placed his children in a potentially dangerous situation by doing so. I feel badly for the children, but I have no sympathy for their father.

What kind of example is he setting by encouraging his children to violate rules set out by the secret service?

If this guy were a wrestler, he'd be a spot monkey. If he's going in to deliberately pick a fight, then he should be shoved into a ring with Holyfield. That should curb his appetite for stupidity.

Secondly, that little girl didn't have the slightest idea what was going on. Daddy probably told her to hold this sign, knowing it would get a negative reaction out of the crowd.

Third, there's already been speculation that the guy in the union shirt was a plant. That has to make you have to wonder if the photographer was a plant, too; or, it's also possible that the photographer got a "hot tip."

No Mike. The girl is really a midget, who tore up her own sign.

Clearly the dad is a twat, as is whoever (if anyone) tore up the sign.

Although if one of the "Kids for Kerry" gets shoved into a mud puddle, you can be certain we'll hear about that, too.
