MLB Game Chatter 9/20-9/22

Sidney Ponson is not only an awful pitcher, but a waste of 25 feet of space.

Don't remind us Oriole fans.

He fooled us into thinking he could pitch.

I warned you.

And this is not a knock on Wakefield, but does anyone else not like when someone who dies in a horrible accident (car, plane, what have you) is described as having "passed away"

I mean, yes, technically he did, but "passed away" sounds almost peaceful.

Still 1-0 Cubs going into the bottom of the 7th. So far, this is all Carlos. He's pitching well *knock on wood* and has driven in the only run of the game. Perez is a great pitcher, but putting all of the offensive responsibilities on the shoulders of Carlos is pretty inexcusable.

Well, plane crash they probably die instantly so it is peaceful

Plus "ripped apart by jagged metal till their heart popped" doesn't go over well with the family.

As for wanting the Orioles to get one win...they got it Monday. 9-6.

You got your one win, finish them off yourselves.

Who do the Yankees face in the playoffs if they win the division?

No wait...wrong

I think....

Hell if I know anymore.

I BELIEVE Twins.

It seems as if the AL East leader faces the AL West leader, and the Wild Card team faces the AL Central leader. (every year that is)

So I'm assuming Yankees vs. Oakland?

Assuming the Red Sox win the division (since you can't play a division rival in round 1), they would face the division winner with the worse Win/Loss Percentage.

Odds are left Vam in too long this time.

Probably should have pulled him after the bunt.

Still, he was getting out of jams so it was a calculated risk to let him try again.

Up to the bullpen now.

Everyone has to be good at something. The Yankees are REALLY good at playing bad baseball against bad teams.

Speaking of leaving in too long, Zambrano stayed in for the 8th. Big mistake. Bases full with only one out and they've been forced to go to the pen. Pitch count was obviously the only reason he was still in, but it was clear he was fading in the 7th. Very frustrating, since our two supposed leaders couldn't score anyone with runners at the corners with one out.

Cubs dodged that bullet.

And why can Sammy catch THOSE, but not routine fly balls?

I don't get it.

Now it'll be all up to Hawkins. Here's hoping the offense can get at least one more run. Nothing against Latroy, just want to give him more room to breath.

Well THAT is certainly an accomplishment Yankee fans love to celebrate.

I think tonight was more of Torre's fault, not the teams. Well, and Bernie, for getting the HORRILE jump on that fly to center.

I blame everyone. Torre for leaving Duque to rot, but the Yankees have to beat the last place teams and pound the ever living shit out of rookie pitchers.

The idea that we have to wait until the eigth inning to get it going is beyond absurd.

I mean I know Bernie's a Yankee for life, but when was the last time he got a clutch hit?

Honestly, I can't think of one this entire season.

He's been solid-ish. Not exactly the guy I want to see up in a big situation, but I don't cringe either.

Posada with a solo home run (of course) to shorten the lead to one, and Matsui follows with a double (gasp!).

For such a good team, the Yankees incompetance in big spots against bad teams is mind boggling.

Cubs hold on for a 1-0 victory.

Big win for them.

The Cubs take the wildcard lead for a little bit.

Remember, a win by the Giants drops the Cubs to 1/2 out, the Astros would fall to 3 out.

HOWEVER, a Giants win and a Dodgers loss puts the Dodgers just a 1/2 ahead of the Giants and just one game ahead of the Cubbies.

It's getting tight.

In other news, the Marlins got blown out by Philadelphia 12-4. So long playoff hopes, they hardly knew ye.

Congrats guys, you just lost a series to one of the worst teams in baseball.

Good fucking Lord.

Runner on second and no one out and we don't score. Bloodly frigging incompetance.
