Favorite kevin smith film

Recommended Posts

Guest pochorenella

I haven't seen JASBSB or the Clerks cartoon, but I've enjoyed all the others. I'll say my favorite is Chasing Amy just because it's the one I've seen the most.

#1. Mallrats, simply because its the film that got me into Kevin Smith, simply because it proves Jason Lee is God, etc.

#2. Dogma, mainly because i've seen it more than J+SBSB, and are therefoore more informed

#3. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, i've only seen it twice, but i liked it, its out on video here in a fortnight so i'll probably end up seeing it more, discovering little bits to it

#4 Clerks. I know everyone creams for this but honestly i'm not its biggest fan, plus the Chewlies Gum rep lokks, acts and sounds like Vince Russo and he terrifies me

#5 Chasing Amy. If it wasn't for Dwight Ewell's diatribe at the start (which is Empire's Classic scene this month)i'd probably never watch  this, simply becuase its dull, depressive, plods along and has a sad ending

After watching Mallrats on F/X I officially hate F/X...officially.

Brodie: Chocolite covered pretzel? They're a little melty but DAMN are they exquisit! (sp?)

TV Brodie: Chocolite covered pretzel? They're a little moldy but MAN are they exquisit!

They dubbed over the word MELTY!!! WTF IS THAT??? That's the problem with TV, Government, school, wrestling or anything else. 9 times out of 9.5 it will be run by complete idiots who don't know anything about anything about ANYTHING!!! Sorry for ranting, but at the school prom, they've banned top hats and canes! I'm a freshmen so I can't go, nor would I if I could, but TOP HATS AND CANES!!! They give you knives at lunch! Anything in school can be a weapon, but at a thing that isn't on school grounds, school time, or even a school DAY, that the students are pretty much paying for, they've banned TOP HATS AND CANES!!!!! Rant over, movie list now;

1) Jay and Silent Bob:

This one I can watch twice a day every day with no problems. You don't have to pay too much attention to it, it's not serious in any way, Shannen (sp?) Elizabeth in the Mooby restaraunt, etc. I put this at the top only because it's the easiest to watch.

2) Chasing Amy:

Extremely well written, very well acted, funny jokes, but it's such a downer movie. Not once does the movie have an vibe of happiness, except MAYBE in the Holden/Allysa montage, and even the jokes don't bring the mood up. I think this is a better movie than what I picked for #1, but 9 times out of 10 I would just rather watch Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

3) Clerks:

I haven't seen a movie this good with such a low budget since The Nuclear Energy. No real plot, just a bunch of stuff happening. Again, something you don't need to sit and watch, but Jay and Silent Bob was a little better IMO, and Amy was better written, etc.

4) Mallrats:

I don't see what the big deal was about this movie being so bad. Commentary was funny.

5) D¤gma:

This movie got me into Kevin Smith. Alan Rickman was good (although much better in Die Hard), Ben Affleck was great in his rants, Matt Damon was good for once in his carreer, and the truith about Jay and Silent Bob was revealed

They banned top hats and canes? That sucks now they can't recreate the putting on the ritz scene from Young Frankenstein.

But honestly i didn't know that top hats and canes are popular prom wear. I didn't think kids cared about the old days.

I guess maybe some school official saw Top Hat where Fred Astaire shoots all the other guys with his cane.

You know it's funny but when I first saw Clerks the anti smoking guy seemed a lot like Russo to me as well!

Wasn't the TV Mallrats supposed to be kinda good, or is it one of those wacky "it's so bad it's good" kinda things? Anyways, my list..

1) Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - Just plain hilarious. Just as Kevin said, it's the biggest inside movie ever made, but if you know the inside things then it's gut-busting. Just how everything is pretty much brought full-circle, while also giving Jay and Silent Bob a whole movie to basically be themselves, it was fantastic.

2) Dogma - What more can be said here that hasn't already been said? It had a great message, at least for me, not to mention first-rate acting, a nice compelling and fantastical plot, and all the requisite humor. This was the first View Askew movie I watched, and the performances of Jason Lee, Mewes, and Kevin basically hooked me into checking out the rest of the series. Just an awesome flick.

3) Mallrats - I'm a huge Jason Lee fan, and this IS Jason Lee's movie. It's basically great moment to great moment to great moment to great moment, with Jay and Silent Bob having hilarity going on between moments. And if you have the DVD, it's extra sweet, because the commentary from Smith, Affleck, Lee, Mewes, Mosier, and Vincent is just absolute gold.

4) Chasing Amy - Again, I really thought Jason Lee stole the show here, but I'm a mark for him so perhaps I'm biased. His "Figments of your Imagination!!!" bit is so hilarious and so friggin true, it's what made the movie for me. Aside from that and the big "Black Rage" bit with Hooper, Banky, and Holden, I wasn't too big a fan of the movie. I didn't like how the whole movie basically said it was ok to act like a whore or a man-whore, and how sex in high school should be and is accepted by people. That just goes against what I believe to be right.

5) Clerks - Outside of Randall, this movie didn't really do it for me. Jay and Silent Bob were actually just 'ok', and the rest of the movie.....eh. Maybe I don't get "intellectual comedy", which would actually be a shocker, but the movie just didn't do it for me, at all. Besides Randall, of course. His telling off of the lady who wants to know how the two movies are, is just absolutely priceless. And "Salsa Shark! We're gonna need a bigger boat..", for some reason, just kills me.

Just the edited version of Mallrats that airs on television. But seriously, almost every line is skewered and/or replaced.

Well, the girls seem to think guys bringing Top Hats and Canes are 'cute' or something, so whatever gets 'em into the s- I mean, whatever they think looks good I guess...
