So I searched in the help section and still couldn't get a clear definition of what to do. Apparently Word was shut down improperly and now it won't me do anything in terms of editing. Even new documents brought up won't let me anything but limited options. Any means of me fixing it and still getting to save the documents or do I have to reinstall?

It could be referencing a bad temp file. Start from safe mode and delete all your *.tmp, *.chk, and *.spl files.

 

If that doesn't work, do a search for the file "normal.dot" and rename it to normal.old. Then restart word. That ought to reset everything.
