This Week in College Football 10/7 - 10/9

OU is an elite program. I can gurantee you they would not fire Bob Stoops if he had two 9-3 seasons in a row. I don't think that'd happen. I think Nebraska was having a problem and they screwed themselves even worse now.

I don't think Callahan will get them in the National Title hunt at all.

He was fired because they had a coach who wanted to take the job that had just been to the Super Bowl, and they figured he'd be a better coach than Solich was. Of course running an NFL offense when you're personnel's the exact opposite doesn't really work, but what can you do.

Oh, and when you're going through SC's schedule, don't forget that Arizona State game next week. ASU's a legitimate Top 10 team.

The decision to fire Stolich had been made before they had an idea of who to replace him with. IIRC, their first few choices had turned them down before they finally pulled Callahan out of their ass, and it was a questionable choice considering WHY he was fired so soon after going to the Super Bowl.

(The Raiders were having to remind each other during team meetings that they couldn't jump Callahan for being an asshole.)

Oh and GreatOne......SC DID have a bad conference last year.

You're right, a conference that went 4-2 in bowl games, to the Big XII's?

Though it appears to be looking up this year. Oh and btw we play in the Big XII South....which is doing just fine. Thus making it tougher still.

SC plays VT, Cal, and ND

And ASU........

BTW the Big XII South is NOT a conference of itself, hate to break it to you. What would you have to say if the Big XII were all one like in basketball? Hmmm, looks like SOMEBODY'S gonna benefit from the lack of SOS this year, esp after that hard-fought win over Missouri or Kansas in the Big XII title game.......................

This week's polls are out, and holy shit: UVA leapfrogged FSU in both polls. Well, that clinches it. We're going to lose in Tallahassee.

Mad props to the AP voters for only dropping Cal one spot. Any team other than USC and yesterday's performance would have been a win.

I know it's not a conference in of itself. But OU plays all the teams from the Big XII south and only 3 from the North.

The South has tougher teams which is what OU has to play against mostly. The North sucks.

And then on top of that it seems you want to blame OU for having a weaker conference this year. Yeah it's not there fault.

Hate to break it to you but they ARE the #2 team in the country and they ARE good enough to be the #2 team and a lot of people on ESPN I've seen argue that they ARE good enough to be #1. Sorry but they don't suck like you seem to be implicating that they do. And they ARE deserving of the spot they have right now. Sorry but it's true. As much as everyone seems to have a problem with them and where they're ranked it is true that they ARE that good. And if they won the National Title and were undefeated then they would deserve it though I'm sure about half of the people here would cry that they don't.

And on top of all of that they've won more games since 2000 than any other team. So they aren't exactly crappy as everyone seems to implicate.

And I'm not saying they're the best ever. I'm saying they're legitimately the #2 team in the country which nobody seems to believe.

And once again there conference strength is NOT their fault. Just like what happened with the Polls and the title game at the end of last year was NOT their fault. Though everyone seemed to act like it was.

As for Oklahoma, yes they are good enough to be the #2 team for now, but if Auburn finishes the season undefeated in the greatly more difficult SEC, they deserve to leapfrog them and take their spot in the Orange Bowl.

And as for the polls, UVa, had to leapfrog FSU. I mean they almost lost to Syracuse. When you have one loss, you're supposed to actually be impressive in your wins if you want to be ahead of undefeated teams, not play like shit.

I do agree though that the Seminoles are gonna be way too much for UVA to handle in Talahassee though.

Actually no. OU is #2 for a reason. Because they are talented enough to be #2. If 3 teams finish undefeated then the 2 most talented deserve to be in the Orange Bowl. And I'm sorry but OU is one of them.

OU is very good, but right now I'd have Auburn just a notch above them. I feel like Auburn's had to deal with a larger variety of playing styles and more audacious conditions, and they've succeeded in all of them. No knock on the Sooners or Trojans, but if all three teams win out (which I don't think will happen), one of those two deserves to visit the Rose or Sugar Bowl instead.

I wish the BCS would just die for what they did to the Rose Bowl. Way to kill a good tradition there.

Well GreatOne seems to think that OU deserves nothing and is the worst team in the nation reading your posts. They ARE good. They ARE the #2 team in the country and if they go undefeated they DESERVE to play in the National Title game. Sorry but it's true.

That's the word, DESERVES. If no one else DESERVES anything, then why should OU?

If OU finds a way to lose to KSU Saturday (or OSU later on) they're OUT of the nat title picture as far as I'm concerned unless you have 2001 all over again and everybody else loses.

It's not that OU isn't a good team (we'll have Clarett/Williams vs the NFL again in two years with Adrian Peterson I'm sure), it's your piss-ass 'well OU and the rest of college football' attitude.

Well everyone else has a piss-ass "Elite teams and then OU" attitude when they forget that OU is one of those teams.

If they lose then yes they'll be out of the title picture unless there's only one undefeated team and the pollsters decide to vote them in at #2 or the BCS sticks them in at #2 which is likely to happen but I doubt it.

I'm not saying nobody else deserves it. But if OU is undefeated then they deserve to play in that game b/c of the talent they have and what they can do on the field.

Just because they don't blow people out by 50 every game this year doesn't mean jackshit. They have a totally different kind of offense. Rather than putting a bunch of points up quickly they put up a couple while eating all the clock.

Did I say a damn thing about margin of victory? Tell me where

If OU remains undefeated yeah, they deserve to be there, and last year they would've too.

It's not just you. I have people in my local paper and people calling into the radio station complaining and asking what's wrong with OU b/c they didn't blow Oregon out by 60!

And on top of that OU/USC or OU/Miami would be the two best National Title games.

Mainly b/c of the fact that all 3 are College FB powers and will be for a long time. A National Title game between these schools would just be awesome.

Especially an OU/USC game. I mean it'd be Leinhart against OU's experienced defense.

Adrian Peterson against an experienced defense.

Leinhart and White battling it out.

It'd be a high scoring shootout or a low scoring defensive battle. But either way it'd be really good.

OU/Miami would be a huge defensive battle. No doubt about it.

Haven't we talked about laying off this shit a million times? Every single college football post on here ends up in the same goddamn place. So irritating.

Not until people accept the fact that I'm a fan thus I'm going to cheer for my team over all other teams.

Nobody says you shouldn't cheer your team. And I really haven't even seen anyone say OU doesn't deserve to be in the Top 2 right now.

All we're saying is that if OU goes undefeated through their next 7 games playing no one tougher than Oklahoma St., and if Auburn defeats Arkansas, Georgia, and another tough team in the SEC Championship, to go along with their earlier wins over LSU and Tennessee, then they would probably deserve it even more.

Obviously, if college football were fair, everyone who goes undefeated would have a shot at the national title. However, given the regulations in place, the situation of three undefeated teams would screw someone out of their rightful shot. Given the teams' schedules, it would be less unfair to keep an undefeated Auburn team out of the national title game than an undefeated Oklahoma squad.

Of course, you really don't have anything to worry about because Auburn won't be able to go undefeated against that schedule and OU and USC should be able to have their own little party with no interruptions.
