This Week in College Football 10/7 - 10/9

Recommended Posts

I have a feeling that if Auburn were to go undefeated and so were OU and USC then it'd be OU/Auburn.

After watching College Gameday all 6 of the guys on there were claiming that OU was #1 and better than USC and so on. Hell I won't even go that far. USC is #1 and hasn't lost yet. Sure OU can narrow the margin between them I think but I don't think they should take #1 until USC loses.

Oh and after watching A&M this year they appear to be becoming a challenge. One blunder against Utah(no shame in that, Utah is good) and they're becoming monsters. Which makes what Utah did more impressive.

Dama, I don't think you understood me on Jason White. He's had a hell of a good record at OU, but on Sat. he was fumbling, fucking up, etc. Vince Young was just that much worse.

Question: Why didn't White go pro? The guy is something like a 6 year senior and won the Heisman.

Also, nobody is disputing that OU is a top 5 team. Hell, who else is there? Sure, Miami is unbeaten as well but as mentioned above does anyone see Brock Berlin in a title game? Bleh. Here's hoping my boys take them out on Thursday.

So OU is only a Top 5 team b/c the rest of the country sucks? Don't think so.

And White's fumble wasn't really his fault it was a good play by the Derrick Johnson. I think anyone would've fumbled after what he did. I mean he punched the ball right out of there. But yes White was playing a bad game.

And why didn't White go pro? Because he was injured last year and had a great year. He's coming back this year to prove that he's injury free and can hack it in the NFL without getting hurt and that he's mobile enough to do it. He's basically here to win his national title and have another good year to prove to NFL scouts that he's not an injury prone unmobile guy.

If I'm not mistaken doesnt White have a national title from back in 2000. I mean if hes a 6th yr senior he had to have been active for that year or maybe hes got that 1985 title ring somewhere. How old is he anyway like 27

He's 24.

And he might have a National Title from 2000 but Josh Heupel won that title. I think White wants to win the title himself.

He was there that year but I'm pretty sure he was 3rd string. Heupel, Hybl, and White were all recruited in the same class and the depth chart went in that order to.

Man....if only they knew then what they know now......well actually White won the starting job in 2001 and tore his ACL. Then was given the starting nod in spring practice in 2002 and tore his other ACL at the beginning of the season. He was a running QB which makes last year even more amazing b/c he wasn't a pocket passer before the injury. He pretty much had to reinvent himself. He's got it easier this year though b/c he's got AD running wild. He doesn't have as much pressure as he did last year.

Oh and funny thing is that Nate Hybl is one of the most hated QB's around these parts b/c both of the seasons he played were 2 loss seasons. I don't hate him quite so much for that I just think he sucked balls compared to Heupel and White.

I think what he's trying to say is Jason White wants to actually win a national title for himself--not one he got by watching Josh Heupel.

That's exactly it.

He said he could care less about winning the Heisman b/c he already has one and doesn't need another. Though it's 99% sure he won't win it b/c the offense doesn't revolve around him anymore.

If Adrian Peterson wins the Heisman would that be the first time ever that a team had two Heisman winners on it? That would be pretty crazy anyway.

I don't think Adrian would win the Heisman though b/c he's a frehsman. Though the College Gameday guys are like "GIVE IT TO HIM!"

but hell if he keeps having performances like he is then he'll have a very very strong case.

And I dunno if that's the first time a team will have two heisman winners on it but it just makes another case as to why we're an elite team.

I'm not denigrating OU by saying they are a top 5 team by default as much as I'm denigrating college football in general. I haven't seen 5 really great teams this year, as in teams that should be top 5. USC has looked shaky quite a few times, though they haven't lost. OU has been solid, they'll probably play for the nat. title this year (Big 12 isn't that overwhelming this year). Auburn looks good right now but in the harrowing SEC they'll likely lose to SOMEONE.

If ever there was a year for a non BCS team to crash the party, this is it. Mediocre year for major confs. + quality "smaller" teams (Utah, Louisville) = bowl shakeup. That said, if both teams get screwed out of the BCS that'll make for one hell of a Liberty Bowl.

I think the OU of today could beat the OU of 2000 that was supposedly one of the best OU teams ever.

I think that if they go undefeated and win the National titles this OU team will be one of the great teams. They have the talent and the ability.

I don't think College FB sucks this year. I think that this OU team will be one for the ages if they do it. Will they be the greatest team of all time like people were saying last year? Hell no. But they'll be one of the greats and probably the greatest OU team of all time.

Bad news for USC, starting WR Steve Smith is out for the year with a broken fibula. This is really bad for USC since their WRs were inexperienced to begin with, and now the WR with the most experince is gone for the year.

Arizona State could very well upset USC on Saturday.

I think a team that isn't being mentioned is Oklahoma State. I mean these guys are a lot better than anyone is giving them credit for. I mean if they run the table and beat OU and Texas could they end up in the national title game? They've never been to one in school history.

I mean I think that the Bedlam Matchup between OU/OSU will be between two undefeated teams and might be between 2 Top 10 teams. Should be good.

This weekend's game against Texas A&M will probably go a long way to seeing how Ok. State will fare the rest of the year, since it'll easily be the most versatile defense they've faced. The running game is fantastic, and they racked up 200 yards passing on just 8 completions last week, but that was an abberation for the passing game; more commonly they've been going 2 for 8 for 23 yards, or 4 for 8 for 70. If someone really stuffs the run, that's going to put a lot of pressure on what's been the most anti-air offense this side of the triple option all year.

I think that sort of thinking is cute, and Cal did look really great, but c'mon. Cal might be more balanced overall, especially now that USC's lost another key player, but the ultimate problem is that they didn't win. We'll see if the season pans out as expected.

For the record, I'm putting in my guess now that OU or USC will get to the Orange Bowl. But not both. My top 5 right now is probably USC, Auburn, OU, Miami, and maybe Cal or Wisconsin. The Badgers are looking like Ohio State from a few years back, except without all the nailbiting close calls.

Is that in order? Because really.....I tend to agree with the thinking that OU is solid #2 if not #1. They have looked better than USC this year.

And seems how Tech is proving to be better than everyone thought OU holding them to 13 is looking more impressive. And A&M is a lot better than anyone gave them credit for so we'll see how that game pans out. But I think A&M is better than Stanford who USC had trouble with.

I agree with most people that say there's a loss waiting for USC. They've looked like they're going to lose several times this year. OU hasn't.

You really can't say that because USC had trouble with Team X who is worse than Team Y that if Oklahoma beats Team Y that they are better than USC. I mean teams play different styles, coaches have different gameplans, and there is a shred of luck involved. USC has shown that they know how to come back and win and win in close games. Oklahoma hasnt shown that yet partly because they havent been down at all this season, or in any games that were close. The time will come sometime this season whether in a bowl game or maybe against A&M or OSU or the Big XII title game where they will get in a close game and show what they have.

Yes, that's in order. USC has faced challenges and a wider variety of teams, and they've handled them all. Close wins, sure. Good football? Definitely.

I put Auburn over OU right now simply because they've done the same damn thing as SC, plus beaten teams I consider to be better than who Oklahoma's had to run up against. They're a more impressive total package. Right now I think those 3 teams are in the top class of college football, and everyone else is in a few steps behind.

They're saying in the midseason report on ESPN.com that OU and Cal are the 2 best teams in the country. Not USC.

Wait, CAL is a better team than USC? Last I checked USC DID win the game. Since when did Division I college football become WWE? (Yeah SC won but Cal got more over during the game)

Oh I forgot, this is ESPN, where the first two words are Sports Entertainment (inverted). Carry on.....................

I dunno....they were right though in that USC hasn't looked to good this year. Sure they've been able to come back but with the hype they're getting they shouldn't even be in the position to have to come back.

And OU does look better than USC.....so does Auburn......
