Smackdown draws lowest rating ever, 2.9

Smackdown last night drew a 2.9 rating and five share, by far the lowest in the history of the show. Considering this was a show where the main event had more hype going in than any Smackdown main event in a long time, the number is downright scary.

I don't know what WWF is going to do to fix this. It is pretty obvious people don't want to see Hogan, because ratings have been going constantly down, since he became a face.

Jericho will get the blame! Because, everyone knows that Triple H & Hogan can draw 8.0 ratings if it wasn't for Jericho, Cough, Cough.

what was the highest and lowest segments of the show?

Will the spindoctors blame the low ratings on the Star Wars special on Fox?

Anyone seen the 15-minute segment ratings for this Smackdown?

IMO, too many promos.

-Angle's promo, although great in thought, dragged when Edge was out there.

-Jericho's promo was repetitive, especially when he just reiterated what Vince said segments before... and why not have Y2J confront HHH in the back instead of wasting 10 minutes of time with that staredown in the ring?

I would imagine that the thrilling Hair setup and Angle/Edge/Jobber tag match didn't do good ratings.

Wow, that's never happened before.

I was marking out over Joey on "Friends".  Oh wait.  Uh, scratch that. I was one of the people watching Smackdown...

Who would of thought Smackdown with what we called a "strong roster" would fall in the ratings when the "weaker roster" of Raw is drawing soild ratings. Although their rating did fall last week.

Raw ratings were staying steady and strong until Hogan won the title and showed up on Raw. Then the rating fell. It has to be Hogan that is causing the low ratings. People don't want to see Vince McMahon anymore either. I bet Vince will bring back Stephanie now on tv, because he thinks it will boost ratings and her not being on is the reason for ratings falling.

Because they refuse to USE that strong roster. You have unover Face HHH being an unover face when he could be a megaheel, you have Rocky making movies, you have Angle wrestling in Jobber tag matches, Hogan going all Geriatric and Jericho not getting a match last PPV.

At 1wrestling, the ratings came out to be a 4.5, which is the normal rating....which leads me to believe that 1wrestling is right.

A 2.9 is too big of a drop anyway.

You are reading the OVERNIGHT rating TheDames. That is not the final rating. The final rating for Smackdown was a 2.9.

Wasn't the 4.5 the overnight rating (considerably different than the final rating) ?

I definitely agree that Hogan is the reason for the drops in ratings experienced lately, but I still think that the reason for RAW being the higher rated show despite the shity roster is because Flair is a draw and Vince is a deterant.

Well, I don't like to believe things are true unless I read it from more than one site.  I don't understand how a 4.5 overnight can translate into a 2.9 if Smackdown usually gets that kind of overnight to begin with.

Umm, both 1wrestling and Wrestling Observer are reporting the 2.9 rating. Did you even look at the sites?

Bottom line.  Austin the THE man in the WWF.

Note to WWF:  Get Goldberg NOW if you want to save your ratings.

Also take note that less people watch TV in the summer. At least, I do. I'm always missing the wrestling programs due to playing neighborhood football or something else outside. It can't all the blame or really much at all but when summer rolls around, I along with most people I know, begin to lose interest with the WWF, but when School picks up we start to watch again.

i think the masses are now actually wanting good WRESTLING and ENTERTAINMENT mixed and the only real place to find that is on raw. i mean, after PPVs, raw is the first show so all the storylines are going to come together on that nite. By smackdown, peopel will have already known what has happened. having smackdown taped isnt helping much either by spoilers leaking out and WWF.COM REPORTING THE SPOILERS!

Also a higher overnight in the metered markets can be thrown off by big market towns that may be showing something like Playoff hockey or baseketball or baseball. Because the rating in the overnights is just for the time slot. When they do the final ratings that show is recalculated for things like that. Also heavy competion could play apart of it, with a new friends, survivor and then throw in Return of the Jedi, are not helpful.

I don't know why thats happening I mean the first hour and 45 minutes were trmemendous. maybe Edge's promos are tacky but hes getting over. Maybe Hogan is turning people off. Or maybe its true wrestling doesn't matter anymore

"Or maybe its true wrestling doesn't matter anymore."

I think this has been true since they botched the Ivasion last year. Wrestling is going through the dreaded "down cycle". It's just not as cool as it was from 98-early '01. Some of it has to do with the product. Things like botching the biggest money angle in history and trying to create another wrestling boom by signing aging superstars are some of the problems. But some of it is a lot of the casuals finally saw something they didn't like about the product i.e. non sensical turns and what have you and wwf hasn't been able to grab those fans back. I'll tell you right now, Goldberg is not the solution. He can maybe pop a rating or a buyrate, but he doesn't have enough mustard on him to get folks who left to tune back in for any extended period of time IMO.

Earth to WWF:

The middle "W" stands for "wrestling"

Vince takes up too much TV time.

I wanna take a poll:

How many people switched channels, even if just temporarily, the moment Vince began mentioning what turned him on?
