Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted October 22, 2004 Ok, keep in mind; This is things WCW had going for them in relation to TNA, not great , awesome things about the dying days of WCW. OK, that's totally different. I thought you meant in general...... The cruisers put on at least one match every night that is on par, or better, than any match TNA has ever done Very true, even WCW with a scaled down version of the Cruiser division......and you would still be right about that. Not as much the tournament, but Iliked the idea of the cruiser tag-division. It spotlighted some of their most talented workers. Look at the teams in the division at the time.......they aren't as impressive as you may remember. I couldn't disagree more. Booker and Steiner were much needed frsh blood in the Main Event scene at the time, and both were working very hard. Steiner was playing a great heel. I really thought he was the best heel in the business for a short time I agree that they were fresh blood at the time for the main event picture, but Booker IMO at that point was past his prime(I always felt he reached his peak around the time he was winning titles in the midcard......or around the Booker/Benoit best of 7. After that his work started to decline, at least his consistincy did.)and Steiner WAS a good heel at the time, but he was terrible in the ring at that point. While I would somewhat agree with you, Goldberg was still more-over at the end of WCW than anyone has ever been in TNA. It may not matter to you personally, but it certainly helps a company to have such a valuable commodity. And no, Monty isn't close. For those who think he is, you have either forgotten or never saw it in the first place. I agree......yet at the time you are talking about(at least the time I THINK you are talking about), toward the end of WCW he was hardly even involved with the product. Hell, toward the end of WCW he was the only true star in the company.........
Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted October 22, 2004 Look at the teams in the division at the time.......they aren't as impressive as you may remember. I will concede this point. Though I thought it was a great idea at the time, I don't remember much happening with it. The only two teams I remember are Elix/Kid Romeo and Rey/Kidman. But yeah, you're probably right on this one. I agree that they were fresh blood at the time for the main event picture, but Booker IMO at that point was past his prime(I always felt he reached his peak around the time he was winning titles in the midcard......or around the Booker/Benoit best of 7. After that his work started to decline, at least his consistincy did.)and Steiner WAS a good heel at the time, but he was terrible in the ring at that point. I would also like to add DDP to this title picture. I just thought it was great when they finally started to try a few new guys at the top. Booker's ring work, while decent, has never been his strong suit. He just seems to have the innate ability to make people care. From his Benoit series, through the end of WCW, I thought that was the best thing about Booker. You just wanted to pull for him. Steiner was going downhill fast at the end of WCW, but his gimmick was working great. You see, he was playing a freaked out roid-head. Now that's a stretch for Steiner. yet at the time you are talking about(at least the time I THINK you are talking about), toward the end of WCW he was hardly even involved with the product. Hell, toward the end of WCW he was the only true star in the company......... True. My memory isn't great, but after you said that I remembered he had a couple of big injuries in the last several months, and ended up on the sidelines a lot. Still incredibly over though. Guest Evolution Report post Posted October 22, 2004 Don West is somewhat decent as an announcer who can mark out for stuff, but TNA needs to get someone else or just have Jeremy Borash alone shill the extraneous TNA things like the fan weekend. EDIT: Yeah, Don West shilled plenty of shit at Shop At Home, but I don't think you can compare professional wrestling to shopping shows very easily.
Fro 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 This was a surprisingly good show, again, there wasn't anything that was blowaway good, but they've built a nice sense of direction. Dutt/Sabin v.s. Kazarian/Shane was a really fun match, and Rude and Young are getting a lot better. Again, Hardy looked like he was trying this week. Hot crowd didn't hurt either. starvenger 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2004 TNA's doing a great job of showcasing Killings in the six-man matches... well, they would be if he actually wrestled a sequence instead of just the pier-six portions. Again, I'd love to be as high on Killings as some of you guys are, but TNA isn't exactly giving me the opportunity to do that. I have to say, I love Jarrett's entrance music. It's a perfect cue to hit that FF button. Monty needs to stop walking like he's got a pickle up his ass. Other than that, they've really built him well. The X-Division tag was good stuff. Easily the best thing on the show.
