FWA British Uprising 3

PHOENIX TO FLY….JUST ONE MORE TIME?

FWA management today announced that ‘The Phoenix' Jody Fleisch will be a special guest at British Uprising 3.

Jody retired from professional wrestling in the summer of 2003 and has not been seen anywhere near the FWA or indeed the UK wrestling scene ever since. The former FWA British Heavyweight Champion had remained silent on his reasons for this premature retirement, when seemingly at the peak of his powers, while in the midst of a bitter rivalry with his former best friend ‘The Wonderkid' Jonny Storm .

This shock announcement, which has come completely out of the blue to us here at Frontierwrestling.com, will fuel speculation that Jody may make a return to actually compete in the wrestling ring. However, this is not expected to happen at British Uprising, nor by any means is this anywhere near a ‘given' at any time in the future. There is no evidence to suggest that this will turn out to be anything more than a ‘one night only' appearance.

Although no official statement has yet been made by FWA bosses, sources close to the management team told us that Jody first approached them a few days after Hotwired, requesting an opportunity to appear in front of the FWA fans one more time. It is believed he wanted the chance to say goodbye to his legions of supporters and as British Uprising 3 was the biggest show in the company's history, this seemed an opportune moment for him to do so.

This marks something of an about-turn for The Phoenix because at the time of his retirement, he personally requested that his departure from the wrestling scene should remain as low key as possible, and politely declined any attempts by the FWA to persuade him to be honoured with any kind of official send-off or retirement ceremony. The reasons for this change of heart are unclear at time of going to press. It is also unclear whether Jody will give any explanation for his sudden retirement when he appears at British Uprising, or indeed what form this special guest appearance will take.

We hope to have an official statement from FWA management on this bombshell news within the next seven days right here on www.frontierwrestling.com

SECOND UPROAR MATCH ANNOUNCED

A six-man tag team match has been signed for the British Uproar pre-show special at Uprising 3, exclusive to Ringside Ticket Holders and Fan Club members.

This will pit Alex Shane 's Security team of Stixx, Stone and Leroy Kincade against the unit of Dangerous Damon Leigh, Jack Storm and making his FWA debut ‘The Raging Bull' TJ Cain. It is believed Cain was offered the final spot in this match after impressing FWA scouts in his matches for FutureShock Wrestling and GPW in the north west of England last weekend.

Dangerous Damon himself has become a regular and a crowd favourite on the FWA Live shows in Morecambe this year, but this will mark his in-ring debut on a major FWA show. Ditto Midlander Jack Storm, who will be keen to impress in front of something of a local crowd for him. Of course they will have their work cut out for them against The Showstealer's trio of hired thugs Stixx, Stone and Leroy.

The only way to see what will happen in this match is to buy yourself a Gold, Silver or Bronze ringside ticket for Saturday November 13.

TWO MAJOR SCOOPS SET FOR SATURDAY

FWA Commissioner Flash Barker released a press statement yesterday advising us at www.frontierwrestling.com that two major decisions have been made that will have far-reaching implications for British Uprising 3.

First of all, Flash said the management team has agreed to his request to appoint a special guest referee to the six-man tag team match at British Uprising, pitting the team of ‘The Twisted Genius' Dean Ayass – ‘The Righteous' Paul Travell , Burchill and Terry Funk – against Greg ‘The Truth' Lambert 's Triad – ‘The Highlander from Hell' Drew McDonald , Thunder and Raj Ghosh .

Flash explained that he had been concerned about the escalating war of words between Lambert and Ayass – in particular the accusations flying back and forth between the two that they each may try to influence the outcome of the match in some way through outside interference. As both Ayass and Lambert have cast-iron managers' licences and cannot be banned from ringside at Uprising, Barker said it was imperative to appoint a special guest official who would – in his words – “understand the mindset” of The Twisted Genius and The Truth, someone who could “get inside their heads” and ensure their presence at ringside would have no bearing on the result of this extremely important match.

It is believed the identity of this special guest referee will be revealed in Patrick Lennon 's ‘Fighting Talk' column in The Daily Star this coming Saturday.

UPDATE: The special guest referee for this match has been revealed as JIMMY HART!

The second announcement will concern the opponent of D'Lo Brown at British Uprising 3. Flash's statement said that the management team had considered the merits of both Mark ‘Five Star' Belton and Jonny Storm, had taken into account the Wonderwhirld Tour petition of thousands of signatures from fans who have demanded to see Storm reinstated into the FWA, and also the protestations against Storm's return by some members of the FWA roster, the most vocal of which have been James Tighe – who of course defeated The Wonderkid in a Loser Leaves FWA Match – and Belton himself. Flash also said that a final decision would be announced on Saturday that would not only determine an opponent for D'Lo on November 13, but also resolve the issue of Jonny's possible reinstatement.

Frontierwrestling.com will have the exclusive on the D'Lo-Belton-Storm situation right here this coming Saturday and will also break the news on the special guest referee for Travell, Burchill and Funk versus The Triad after it has appeared in The Daily Star.

UPRISING MUSIC VIDEO DEBUT SET

Tune in to The Bagpipe Report on The Wrestling Channel this Friday night at 8pm to see the debut of the long-awaited British Uprising 3 Music Video.

That will be followed at 9pm by a brand-new episode of FWA TV, where ‘ The Righteous' Paul Travell is scheduled to face his former partner Raj Ghosh with five minutes in the ring with Greg Lambert at stake, Stevie Knight and Mark Sloan will team up to battle Dirk Feelgood and Dangerous Damon Leigh, and Steve Corino returns to take on ‘The South City Thrilla' Hade Vansen . Don't miss it!!!

GOLD RUSH FOR ROSS

Ross Jordan is the latest name to be thrown into the hat for the huge Battle Royal at FWA Gold Rush. The Little Dragon joins James Tighe, Simmons and ‘The Specialist' Mark Sloan in the event set to headline the show at Broxbourne Civic Hall on Sunday November 28, with other names still to be announced. Don't forget that Low Ki will also challenge for the All-England Title on the Gold Rush show.

Wow, guess I've got no excuses for not going to this show, as a Coventry boy the only wrestling I've seen locally is Midlands Pro Wrestling, which isn't quite the same standard. Can't wait

I might try and get free tickets as I know Jack Storm who's wrestling there, but I'm not really that bothered about it.

I've fallen out with FWA after they send word to a really, really small little promotion I was helping out with that we couldn't call our main title a "world title" as that belonged soley to FWA... for God's sake, the biggest crowd we had was about 30 but some how the FWA decided we weren't allowed to have a world title :stupid:

I really wanted to go to this but its a long way from where I live. If it had been in London like last year I definatly would of been going. It's got a damn good card and I'm sad I'm going to miss it. I'll just have to make sure I make it to the wrestling channel super card next year.

Guest INXS

Fleisch quit wrestling due to pressure from his fiancee who wanted him to concentrate on holding down a better paid, full time job.

Anyhow, looks like a stacked card..

Was Fleisch's hand injury a work then? As that is the reason I've always heard for him having to retire

I'm driving down with a mate to see the show, probably getting £10 tickets on the door. Should be an awesome event.

Just got back from the show- really good stuff all round, my first FWA show I've been to, though it certainly wont be my last after this. Got to meet Burchill, D-Lo Brown and Jimmy Hart, all of whom were really nice, as well as Tony "Banger" Walsh, who invited me and my friend Jack to his house to look at his memorablia. I'll try and upload the photo of me and Tony later on tomorrow.

Results:

Aviv Mayaan v Spud v ‘Little Dragon' Ross Jordan

Really hot opener, crowd was really into Spud, although all three men impressed. Spud won after pinning Jordan with some kind of corkscrew moonsault.

FWA All-England Title Match, Last Man Standing

‘The South City Thriller' Hade Vansen v Jack Xavier

Decent match, although dragged a bit in places. Crowd really didn't like Vansen, but he still picked up the win after sending Xavier through a portion of safety rail he brought into the ring

D-Lo Brown vs Mark "Five Star" Belton

Tony Walsh did the introductions for this match. Crowd gave D-Lo a nice ovation, as opposed to Belton, who got a "Five Star Retard" chant. Belton stole a victory from D-Lo, pinning him with a quick count from the ref. Decent action, Belton looked a lot better than when I saw him in February wrestling for All-Star and D-Lo looked great, especially a nice Asai moonsault to the floor

Terry Funk, ‘The Righteous' Paul Travell and Burchill (with ‘The Twisted Genius' Dean Ayass) v Drew McDonald, Raj Ghosh and Thunder (with Greg ‘The Truth' Lambert)

Predictably, this was utter carnage, with Jimmy Hart trying to keep order in the ring, but failing. Burchill was SOOO over and he looked awesome, busting out the standing shooting star and the C4 early on. Thunder is apparently Tony "Banger" Walsh's son, who Tony told me was heading to America to wrestle. Funk, McDonald and Travell all bled. Win came after Travell hit Ghosh with what looked like Nate Webb's Soylent Green. Burchill and Funk both got a big ovation afterwards

The Jody Fleisch return came in a segment where Commisioner Flash Barker was counting signatures on a petition to see if Jonny Storm could return to wrestle for the FWA. James Tighe and Mark Belton came to the ring to add their signatures against his return, which put Storm out of the FWA. However, Fleisch made his return to a huge ovation, pointing out the FWA Website has him down on the active roster, which meant he could vote, opting to allow Jonny Storm to return. Tighe and Belton took exception to this and beat down Fleisch.

FWA Tag Team Title Match

The Duke of Danger and Simmons v ‘The Specialist' Mark Sloan and ‘The Shining Light' Stevie Knight

Weakest match of the night, although Simmons was very over. Sloan and Knight came with a group of kids, known as The Entourage, which earnt a "Blazing Squad" chant in our area. Colt Cabana did the intros for this match, annoying Knight by dancing the tango with him. End came when Knight went off to the back with Buttercup, the Duke's maid, leaving Sloan all alone for the Simmons pin.

FWA British Heavyweight Championship Match, One Fall, Winner Takes All

The Anarchist' Doug Williams v ‘The Showstealer' Alex Shane

If Shane fails to win the title, he must fight Danny Williams in a Boxer v Wrestler Match

Before the match, the ref sent Alex Shane's Security team from ringside. Really good back and forth action, with Shane proving he can wrestle if need be. Ref got bumped towards the end, allowing Shane to low-blow Williams as he went for the Chaos Theory, upon which AS Security came to doff up Williams. Ulf Hermann came to the ring, destroying the Security with lots of plunder, but sadly hitting Williams with a dustbin, before security removed him. Shane then hit 2 One Night Stands on Williams to become the NEW FWA Champion, which got him a decent pop. Williams looked at the bin afterwards, and didn't look happy

30 minute Iron Man Match

AJ Styles v James Tighe

This became the main event after AJ had traffic problems on his way to Coventry. Decent match if you take AJ's lack of preparation time and jetlag into account. AJ went one nil up with a crucifix, but Tighe equalised after countout by Northern Light suplexing AJ into the ring side barriers. Final sequence saw AJ trying to get the Styles Clash, with Tighe trying to fight it, before AJ got the Clash for the final fall just before the 30 minutes expired. Some after match antics involving an attacking Mark Belton and a saving Jody Fleisch and Jonny Storm also occured, but I was busy meeting Jimmy Hart at this point, although I was told Fleisch hit a springboard SSP to the floor on Belton and Tighe

Overall, a really good night which impressed many of my friends, who had no idea what it would be like.

Unless Tighe not a pinfall that wasn't mentioned, I think it was really bad booking to not let him get a pinfall over Styles. It's bad enough putting outsiders over their own guys when there doesn't seem any plan for the own guy to get his win back, but not even letting their guy get a pinfall is stupid.

While Fleisch was banged up, he mostly retired because his girlfriend didn't want him wrestling.

I see what you mean, but it seemed to work in the context of the match. Tighe referred to his match with AJ earlier this year, which Tighe had won, in a promo and Tighe certainly dominated the majority of the match. AJ's first pinfall came across as a lucky desperation move that caught Tighe by surprise and Tighe's fall made him seem like that little bit more of an asshole heel, and the Northern Lights through the barrier looked really good and proved that Tighe could seriuosly hurt AJ if he needed. I agree that puttting outsiders over isn't a good plan, but it was the main event, which ensured the crowd went home happy, AJ has already jobbed a few times to FWA stars and D-Lo had already put over Belton in his match so jobbing out two of the big import names would have seriously annoyed the crowd.

Despite beating AJ in their first encounter, Tighe still doesn't have a pinfall over Styles, he won the first one on a DQ decision IIRC

I was disappointed with the show overall and glad I only opted for the £10 ticket

Match of the night was the opener in my opinion, everything after that was substandard (Brown/Belton, Hampton Court/Knight and Sloan), a complete mess (The 6 Man), devoid of heat or any intensity (Vansen/Xavier - Last Man Standing) or not as good as it could of been (Williams/Shane, Styles/Tighe)
