The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2004 I was reading UK's Power Slam magazine the other day, and they had a section on brutal injuries. Supposedly, Alan Funk took a knee to the face on some sort of a diving move, which REALLY screwed him up. I can't remember exactly what, but he had to go through extensive facial reconstruction 'n shit. That's gotta suck if it's true. Can somebody give more details/what's he doing now? Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2004 He was wrestling a tag match in Helsinki, and Sonny Siaki tried a slingshot moonsault. Siaki landed wrong, and his knees smashed into Funk's face, breaking his nose, and causing major damage. Funk was unable to leave the country for almost a week, because he couldn't fly due to the damage done.
Guest The Masked Avenger Report post Posted November 15, 2004 That is true. I actually worked the same show (they had the opening match, mine was the second). It was a tag match involving Elix Skipper, Funk, Siaki and Mike Sanders. Siaki, as Hunter's Torn Quad said, tried a slingshot moonsault and hit Funk with his knees. He was barely conscious back stage, his cheek bone, nose and orbital bone were broken and he was bleeding from at least one ear, as his ear drum was busted. Hence the reason he couldn't fly out for quite some time. There was also some talk about a neck injury, but I don't know anything more about it. The show was named Baltic Brawl, and held by the now defunct Valhalla Pro Wrestling. -TMA

Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2004 I actually worked the same show (they had the opening match, mine was the second). You are an actual indy wrestler? Cool. ...and damn that sucks to be Alan Funk. Hope he gets better.
Guest The Masked Avenger Report post Posted November 18, 2004 In no way or form a very famous or talented one, but I get by:-) I come from a country close to Finland, so I (along with a couple of other guys from our fed) where brought in as low carders. It was a great experience, though! -TMA

Guest The Masked Avenger Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Norwegian would be correct. To the best of my knowledge, there are no serious swedish pro wrestlers yet (not counting Frank Andersson, of course). It was a great experience for us to work the same shows as these guys, but it was aweful that something like this should happen to Funk, who truly seemed like a nice guy. We were out drinking the night before, and the memories will be with me 'til my dying day -TMA
Guest j_hauva Report post Posted November 25, 2004 yo who r u.... are you Big John??? cos that guy kicked ass... or the funny ass guy with the ""fisherman" outfit... or maybe even... Erik Isaksen...?

Guest The Masked Avenger Report post Posted November 26, 2004 Glad to hear it! Personally, I feel that I've come quite a long way since that match (not to mention that I felt f***ed up as hell after watching what happened to Funk), but it's always nice to be appreaciated. That funny man with the"fisherman's outfit" is, by the way, Shark Boy, who is an american. Keep your eyes on Pro Wrestling Finlandia, though, and maybe you'll see Big John again! -TMA
Guest j_hauva Report post Posted November 29, 2004 no no... the "fisherman outfit" that i meant was a cardigan, fisherman hat and long pants... he was norvegian.. Gromguten was his name... hahah he had the funniest entrance music.
Guest Eric the Eagle Report post Posted November 30, 2004 Ah, Gromguten. He didn't exactly have a career high in Finland, IIRC, but he's gotten really good. Broke into the main event with a program against the champ recently, and worked against Robbie Brookside last show. His entrance, BTW, is Norwegian folk music, playing into his gimmick of being the "most Norwegian" of all Norwegian wrestlers.
