Guest MikeSC Report post Posted November 23, 2004 Having watched the press conference --- it is amazing how Florida blew it with a guy who clearly and obviously wished to go to the school. He could not conceivably love that school more "If we(S. Carolina) don't win the East, I hope they (Florida) do." He'll likely be tossing people off of the team (Daccus Turman should go ahead and get ready to be removed) in the very near future. Shame that reports indicate he and Rick Stockstill (best recruiter in this state and the man who made Troy Williamson one of the best receivers in college) aren't getting along. He really needs Stockstill. -=Mike

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted November 23, 2004 Why did he say no than? Well. As a FSU fan fuck Steve Spurrier. He felt insulted that Florida expected him to interview for the job. Can't really blame him. All of those SEC titles and that National Title he won for them should be enough to give it to him. -=Mike

Bobby Bowden's 75 and he's still winning ACC titles. He'll have the Gamecocks in the championship game within 3 years.

Did one of the morons at Florida forget to look in their trophy case for his resume?

But I mean Spurrier is in great shape so yeah I guess you're right. How long does everyone think he stays?
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted November 23, 2004 aren't Interviews required? even as formalities? Florida should have just gone "As a requirement, we have to "interview" you".
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Anyone think he'll win the SEC? I mean he's nearly 60 years old. I think he has limited time to do this. If he can sweet talk him, he has an elite WR (Troy Williamson --- who MIGHT go pro, as he is amazingly good), a possible superstar RB (Demetris Summers, who was given a whopping 89 carries all season, in spite of about a 6.0 ypc average), possibly great QB in Blake Williamson, and a rock-solid secondary. I don't think the SEC Title is a likely possibility next season, but 8 or 9 wins IS a possibility and he's going to recruit the hell out of this team. Carolina is not THAT far behind Florida, Tennesee, and Georgia (they ALWAYS play Georgia close and, before this year, tended to play Tennessee exceptionally close). An SEC East title is a very real possibility inside of 3 years. aren't Interviews required? even as formalities? Florida should have just gone "As a requirement, we have to "interview" you". Nah. I KNOW S. Carolina didn't interview Lou Holtz when they hired him (nor did they interview Steve Spurrier). Florida is highly unlikely to interview Urban Meyer if they take him. Do you think Bob Stoops would EVER have to interview for a job? I can say that S. Carolina can get ANY coach who loves golf --- seeing as Hootie Johnson is a prominent USC grad and will, no doubt, give a coach a membership to Augusta National to join. -=Mike ...Heck, Andy Card (Bush's Chief of Staff) is ALSO a Carolina grad, so a possible pardon could be offered ... Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 I'll be honest about Carolina for once. They're a pretty damned good bite-you-in-the-ass-if-you-look-past-them team, or were this year. If they could just learn how to beat two of the other three SEC East contenders, they'd be well set on their way to becoming a national player. Florida seems to be the biggest hurdle for them for whatever reason, so concentrate on them, and figure out how to get over the hump with Georgia. They play Tennessee close sometimes and sometimes get blown out, so it's a little harder to gauge how much work needs to be done when they go to Knoxville next year (but they'd better bring a lunch, because Ainge will be a seasoned Sophomore by then). But first things first, they need to better utilize the underacheiving talent they have as quickly as possible. Spurrier's reputation alone will bring the top-flight recruits, and from that point it's all motivation. South Carolina might be a scary team to play in several years. Ugh. I'm torn. This means an even more competitive SEC, but it also means it'll be even harder for an SEC team to get to a national title game. On a personal level, it also means having to hear more about them in local TV news and print. Ew.

Membership at Augusta National (unofficial part of the deal). -=Mike
