When did the world title last change hands

Recommended Posts

If there ever was a better time to repackage Val, now would be the time, with the new haircut. Well, there were better times, back when he was Chief Morley, but that go's without saying.

I want Venis to be repackaged but I don't want his history as a porn star to be thrown out the window, as at this point in his career, it would give the character a more three dimensional personality.

On a side note, with Edge and Christian interacting on Raw recently, was it ever stated or brought up that they are brothers?

I think it would be cool to see Val cut a promo saying that he " detests the Val Venis gimmick-character, and go back to being Sean Morley. He shouldn't totally forget the Venis character, but use that as a basis for a new personality; one that is only there for one thing, and that is winning championship gold.

bigm350: So...basically you would Tenta/Runnels him?

What do you mean, have them completely forget and/or denounce their gimmick? If that's what you mean, no, just have him use that as fuel for the fire to reach that next level. Val is too talented to be treated as a low life jobber.

Yes, exactly. At this point though, I don't care what they do with him as long as they don't fire him. If he stays on as Val Venis, the jobber, I suppose I'll live. I would love to see him pushed again though.

I remember I was still a mark in 2000 when Venis was being pushed as a heel, with Trish as his manager. He was over with me then, so I know it can work.

Venis: I am not a dick! I am a man named Sean!

Why not just make him go to Smackdown as a JBL lacky like Orlando Jordan? They can team up as Vanilla & Chocolate. The real question is "Who is the Vanilla?" (as in who is bland in talent)

I wonder how pissed the rest of the Raw roster was for HHH being handed the World title in 2002, without even earning it?

I doubt they were really bothered by it, considering you don't really EARN title reigns like you earn other things in sports. HHH was already cemented as a elite player. If they did the same with Angle or Taker, they would have felt the same. The only real "issue" they would have had was that it made the title initally meaningless and that he used the NWA/WCW title (physical) for his own ego and trying to say it was the same title that Harley Race, Ric Flair, Terry Funk, Sting and many others carried.

And then Eugene and Edge can do the same thing and form a new Evolution!

1999:

WWF Title:

1. Mankind started the year

2. The Rock defeats Mankind

3. Mankind defeats the Rock

4. The Rock defeats Mankind

5. SCSA defeats The Rock

UT defeats SCSA

SCSA defeats UT

6. Mankind defeats SCSA

7. Triple H defeats SCSA

8. Vince McMahon defeats Triple H

9. Triple H wins 6 man match

10. Big Show defeats Triple H

Edited for accuracy. Seriously.

That would make 12.

If we're going with "real time", it's really 11, since Foley won the title on the last RAW taping of 1998.

The title reigns were certainly too short then, but in a way it made more sense than it does now.

I mean, back then if Foley and Rock had six matches, they could just split them 4-2 with Foley getting in a couple title runs and it made sense. Now we'll have situations like Benoit where he can't win for years, then absolutely can't lose for a few months, and then always ends up just short again.

Of course, I guess that kind of broken kayfabe's not that bad compared to using the stupid "tied" finish twice in the same night. WWE's really got a hard-on for that one. I swear they've used it on over half of their battle royals for the last three years, and they've used it at the end of a championship match at least three or four times too.

TECHNICALLY... Triple H defeated Undertaker (due to Brock Lesnar's interference) a week prior to this in a #1 contender's match for the then-Undisputed title (which became SD! exclusive at the end of RAW when Lesnar left with Steph in a limo) so in all actuality, Triple H wasn't just handed the title on a whim, he did earn the #1 contender's spot.

Mind you, I'm not defending in any way the decision to just give Trips the belt, but it wasn't just out of the blue, he was the earned #1 contender to the belt.
