(and some of these may not be really considered nu metal.) the shit list is what I call it. Except for Disturbed. Other nu-metal bands. Guest snuffbox Report post Posted May 7, 2002 For the love of god, Hatebreed is NOT a nu-metal band. They are a hardcore metal band, no semblance of hip hop. Hed PE Primer 55 Linkin Park Adema Drowning Pool Papa Roach Pressure 45 Mudvayne Darwins Waiting Room Taproot Slaves on Dope Those are some bands that fit the nu metal genre. Korn and Limp Bizkit were among the first and the biggest of these bands. Nu metal is the modern equivalent of hair metal. It mostly sounds the same, really gay, except for a few exceptions and a handful of current bands breaking the mold
Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 7, 2002 yes..hatebreed is no way under that category!! here are a "few": cold breaking point korn saliva SOAD slipknot apex theory lost prophets headstorng american head charge corporate avenger deadsy incubus reville adarma earshot project 86 factory 81 flaw sevendust deftones audiovent vanilla ice (yes, vanilla ice..he sounds just like korn now) dry kill logic coal chamber the used papa roach nonpoint ill nino trust company thats off the top of my head..ill check shoutweb or wickedland for others
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted May 7, 2002 For a band to be nu metal, there should be rap/hip hop influence and/or a DJ. The only band in that category i like is rage, and they were b4 nu metal anyways. For the reasons above, i don't consider SOAD nu metal at all. Or Disturbed. Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 7, 2002 i think the dj / hip hop elements lead to another seperate sub-genre, rap-metal. Nu-metal and rap-metal have bothe been used seperately in the media and thats what im going by..you could take a bunch of those bands and apply them to the rap-metal, as well as Cypress hill's latest stuff, SX10. some of those bands i listed arent "nu-metal" by my definition, im just going by the music/radio industry standards. Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 7, 2002 Kid Rock Korn Limp Bizkit Aphex Theory Incubis 311 Linkin Park Papa Roach SOAD Fear Factory? when did NuMetal become the popular buzzword?
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted May 7, 2002 Nickelback isn't nu-metal. Pop/rock. Fear Factory is/was in NO FUCKING WAY nu-metal. Add: Kittie Otep
Guest thevertex Report post Posted May 8, 2002 Default and Nickelback aren't nu metal, they are more like shitty grunge ripoffs tailormade for radio like Creed or Three Doors Down. Nu-Metal isn't some all encompassing genre either. Faith No More did a lot to start the sound, and KoRn popularized it. They didn't really ripoff anyone. Then there's bands like say, Deftones or Incubus who don't have a cliched Nu-Metal sound at all, and we know a lot of those do exist. It's not the only trend either. I see a lot of pop-punk now a days, a lot of emoish stuff (like Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, Thursday, etc.. and their many clones), and don't forget "throwback" stuff like the Strokes, the Hives, White Stripes and the like. Believe me, when the record companies smell blood, they will NOT relent until they suck all the life possible out. Note hair metal in the 80s, grunge in the early 90s, industrial in the mid 90s. Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted May 11, 2002 I'm not sure if yuo'd call Kid Rock nu-metal, as he's been around for 10+ years, you might though because Tool's been around for a logn time and their nu-metal. Nickelback isn't nu-metal, either is Incubus. Their just plain rock. And for those who say Nickelback is just radio-tailored crap outta listen to the rest of "Silver Side Up". They put the only two radio-friendly songs on the radio. The rest are definatly not radio-friendly (and one of the tracks has this sweet bassline that's definatly one of the heaviest things I've heard). And you know, just because a song is popular doesn't make it bad.
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted May 11, 2002 Listen to Nickleback's first album The State and its obvious their not nu-metal. I dont classify Default as nu-metal, theyre more along the lines of rock as well.
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted May 11, 2002 hold up theycallmeamark. Did i just read that you say TOOL is numetal~!? Tool is semi-metal man. No way is Tool nu-metal.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted May 11, 2002 Tool is progressive/alternative, if anything. Not metal at all, and anybody that calls them metal deserves a bitch-slap. And I hate Nickelback because I've heard a good deal of their songs, and can't find redeeming qualities. Did anybody add the greatest nu-metal band ever, and one of the only "nu-metal" bands that has any hope of longevity, DOPE?

Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 11, 2002 how is Kittie a Nu-Metal band? is this the same band that did Brackish? If Kid Rock is not Nu-Metal then would you consider him to just to be a Beastie Boy/Metallica wanna be? Nu-Rap?
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted May 11, 2002 How is Kittie NOT a nu-metal band? They're called metal, they're not, and they try to be a metal band and fail horribly. That's the very definition of "nu-metal." Kid Rock is rap/rock. I don't think anybody's ever called Kid Rock metal, actually...anybody over 9 and under 67, anyways. Guest Report post Posted May 12, 2002 I don't think Nickelback, Cold, Puddle Of Mudd, or Incubus are Nu-Metal bands.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted May 12, 2002 it appears that everyone has a different working definition of nu metal. i think my definition was just all the new music that i hate (which is why i didn't put incubus on my list).
Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted May 12, 2002 I always thought that nu-metal was either metal that was trying to be radio friendly (Hoobastank, Linkin Park, KoRn) or metal that was trying explicitly to sell albums by not being radio friendly and appealing to kids who are trying to be 'different' (Slipknot, Tool, Coal Chamber). My other defining characteristic of nu-metal is the lack of guitar solo's as a major element. Hence all the bands above. Unless somebody provides a compelling element as to why Tool shouldn't be on the list I think I'll keep 'em there. Some people use nu-metal as a label of crapiness, which to some I understand because they don't like the music. I don't really, though. There are some nu-metal bands I like (Korn, Disturbed, Rob Zombie).
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted May 12, 2002 Incubus is more along the lines of stoner rock.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted May 12, 2002 Nah, Incubus is more along the lines of total shit. Add Deadsy, they try to be Gothy, but they just sound like Orgy... The Jon Davis & Fred Durst influence is another nail in the coffin. Add Static-X, Orgy, and Mushroomhead as well.
Guest Vyce Report post Posted May 12, 2002 Default and Nickelback aren't nu metal, they are more like shitty grunge ripoffs tailormade for radio like Creed or Three Doors Down. Four bands which I happen to enjoy. Well, maybe not Creed, but the rest are actually decent bands. It just so happens that they're ridiculously overexposed on the radio. That doesn't mean that they're crap, though. Of all of the nu-metal bands listed, the only three I'd count as any good are Incubus (which to me doesn't have the typical nu-metal sound, but at any rate they've progressed as musicians unlike bands such as Limp Bizkit), Hoobastank (who sound like Incubus clones) and Disturbed (definitely should NEVER be placed in any category with filth like Durst or Kid Rock). Oh, and Tool is SO not nu-metal. Neither is Rob Zombie.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 13, 2002 Incubus is more along the lines of stoner rock. wha-wha-wha? i think stoner rock is Kyuss, Nebula, Roadsaw, Down, Fu Manchu, Mondo Generator and the like
Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 13, 2002 Man, music has become so over catagorized. And how is Staind nu-metal??
Guest Report post Posted May 13, 2002 I wouldnt call Linkin Park nu metal... maybe sort of, but theyre a rap/nu metal boy band, which is probably another category, but I dont know what it is... nu metal bands should have at least formed of their own volition, I say
Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 13, 2002 Um, how is Linkin Park a boy band. Usually one of the most important parts of the boy bad thing is that they have to look good. Now I ain't exactly the expert on male attractiveness, but I know ugly when I see it. These dudes aren't exactly poster boys.
Guest Report post Posted May 13, 2002 Linkin Park is a boy band cause they were auditioned and put together by a record company. They were supposed to be a more traditional dance pop boy band, but they werent attractive enough to pull it off, so youre right about that. They ended giving them a new look and sound and pushing them to a different market.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted May 14, 2002 Incubus is a christian rock band. And Linkin Park is a boy band, look at the lead singer.

Guest godthedog Report post Posted May 14, 2002 Incubus is a christian rock band. wow...if that's true, they're really breaking some new ground in that field. the lyrics "if you let them fuck you, there will be no foreplay" are definitely a first in the christian rock genre.
